Guest guest Posted October 11, 2002 Report Share Posted October 11, 2002 I know when my alk.phos. fluctuated some, I could never tell any difference in the itching. Large doses of prednisone helped the itching and brought my liver count down but I couldn't stay on that much prednisone. Now that I take Rifampin my itching is better, however, my GI Dr. would not prescribe it but my Hepatologist did, he said it can cause further damage to the liver especially if you aren't monitored or take more than prescribed. So I am taking my chances because I couldn't live much longer with the intense itching. Good luck and my best wishes. Martha from Mo.
