Guest guest
Hi Colleen, Welcome to the group. Most people develop the symptoms you describe when they withdraw too quickly from any psychotropic drug. Depression, anxiety, agitation, and suicidality are all common withdrawal symptoms. Nearly all doctors, even the conservative ones, withdraw their patients from these drugs far too quickly. Unless you make reductions no greater than 5-10%, wait until you feel stable before making the next reduction, and support your body with appropriate diet and supplements, you are likely to experience strong withdrawal symptoms such as those you describe. It's just the evil nature of these drugs. The good news is that here we have had years of experience with withdrawal and recovery. If you follow our guidelines and work closely with , the list owner, you will succeed! Your family history of emotional symptoms is most likely a history of nutrient deficiencies and absorption problems. These things get passed along in the womb. Again, there is good news here. These deficiencies can be treated with the appropriate diet and supplementation. is an expert at this. We ahve many members whose lives have been transformed. Take some time to read the materials we sent when you joined. they are very important to understanding our approach. Focus especially on Eating for Recovery--you can start right away to implement this eating plan so your body can begin to receive what it needs to heal. Feel free to ask questions about any of the articles we sent you. They can all be found in the group Files as well. Guest guest
Dear Colleen, You are not alone. I too have been on/off anti depressants for 6 years now. I initially had panic/anxiety so bad that I couldn't even leave the house. The zoloft helped w/those initial symptoms the first time, so I thought. After a year and a half on I tried to come off and within 3 months everything was back. I think I was worse off actually. I'd go back on/off. I too had/have the sexual side effects. I wish I would have found this group a few years ago. I had to do alot of research for myself. My Dr could never answer any of my questions and their only response for my continuing symptoms was to up the dosage. I refused to up my dosage, I wanted less not more. I found a different Dr who is conventional and complimentary. He tested ALL my hormones levels, thyroid, blood counts, everything. (which previous Dr never did)Everything was on the low side. He started me on good supplements and fish oils, gave me a list of books to read and told me that a slow taper is a MUST. I would go to libary and read up on mental health disorders/vitamins/nutrition, exercise and learned alot. That was in 3/05. I started a slow taper this Feb. and this is the best I have felt. I'm not having all those nasty side effects. I have gone a year without any infections. Previously I was always getting strep throat, sinus, ear infections. I'm not 100% yet, but I feel so much better. Prior to weaning I could tell that the vitamin/supplements were doing something. It's not instant, but you start to notice little things that you didn't realize you'd lost. Like your spirit, excitement over something, even womanly things like wanting to change purses or wear fancy underclothes or playing w/your kids. I have 3 boys. At times, I've been skeptical or had my doubts. Sometimes I have fear that all my anxiety will come back, like it did before when stopping meds. I too sometimes wonder if my moments of anxiety are from the meds or just me. But I try not to figure it out and just accept it for what it is. Most times thats when I say a prayer and put it in Gods hands. > >
