what it's like to have a real mom

i am having a very stressful time at work and i visited with my

professor from my certification program and talked to her about what

was going on and my plan to get my masters to teach remedial math at

the city community college. i expected her to say, " oh, it can't

really be that bad, " or, " everyone has to work 40 hours. it's not

like it's rocket surgery, " or, " suck it up, " or any other kind of

dismissive statement. she just started helping me to figure out what

i needed to do next. it was so NICE. holy crap.

Isn't it amazing. We are so used to being kicked around by our BPs

that mere decency is astonishing and overwhelming to us. (Yet another

thing to be mad at my mom for)
