Guest guest
There are 3 types of mindfulness based CBT, one type was developed in Australia and I know nothing about it. But I have two mindfulness based CBT books and one is very much like CBT with mindfulness thrown in, the other book is by Mark and Teasdale and is very simillar to ACT. Indeed, Mark often writes glowing reviews on the backjackets of ACT books. The professionals will put me right here, but I believe you can't go far wrong with Mark / Teasdale style of CBT. In the Mark book below, The Mindful Way Through Depression - Freeing Yourself from Chronic Unhappiness - you will read very little about CBT, but lots on mindfulness and acceptance. http://www.amazon.com/Mindful-Way-through-Depression-Unhappiness/dp/1593851286/ref=sr_1_1?s=books & ie=UTF8 & qid=1314201126 & sr=1-1 You can read some of it here for free. http://books.google.com/books?id=uE-HjrA2yJIC & pg=PR3 & source=gbs_selected_pages & cad=3#v=onepage & q & f=false Kv >> OK, I've pretty much accepted that there is nobody doing ACT therapy locally. So is there a specialty I should pick that would be sort of close? Lots of therapists in my area do CBT and/or Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy. Should I try one of them? I really feel like ACT is very different from much the therapy I have experienced.> > If there are any professionals on here who could give me guidance, I'd appreciate it.>
Guest guest
If you would be willing to see an ACT therapist via Skype you might contact http://contextualpsychology.org/contact. There has been a recent discussion about therapy over Skype on the professional listserv and someone requested a list of people who were doing do. Of course there are drawbacks but you might get more from a real ACT therapist over Skype than face2face from someone with another approach. Guest guest
Osvaldo, That's very odd. The Kindle version was there when I added the shortened URL to my post referring to it. Maybe knows what's happened or can find out. Cheers, Stan > > > > > > > > > > OK, I've pretty much accepted that there is nobody doing ACT therapy > > > > locally. Guest guest
It doesn't show up as a kindle version for me either. It may not be available as a kindle in Australia, where I am, because the licences for ebooks are quite country specific. It is available as a pdf from the publisher, but not as cheap as an average kindle book: http://www.newharbinger.com/bookstore/productdetails.cfm?PC=695 Kate > > > > > > > > > > > > > > OK, I've pretty much accepted that there is nobody doing ACT > > therapy > > > > > > locally. Guest guest
$28.99 is an outrageous price to pay for an e-book! > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > OK, I've pretty much accepted that there is nobody doing ACT > > > therapy > > > > > > > locally. Guest guest
My link show $22 ... still too expensivefrom a consumer point of view but it is actually not outrageousIn these short run books if you do the mathmainstream publishers can't survive on $5-$10.Trade books -- sure. In fact Get Out of Mind at one point was $1 on Amazon kindle. Technical books done by garage - leveloutfits (I ran one for 20+ years -- Context Press -- so I know the economics) -- they too can do fine at $5 - $10. They have minimal expenses. But professional books done by outfits with buildings and editors and staff etc -- nope. At $10 a shot a book that sells, say, 2 to 3 thousand copiescould bring in (gross) about 8-21 thousand dollars (Amazon will get 30-60% of gross depending). It costs about 5-7K in editorial; authors get 10-15%. Those staff and buildings etc another 5-7K. Marketing ...ah, well, you are already way upside down and we're just getting startedIf you follow that out, in the age of Kindle we have very small outfits and self promotion on the one hand; and big trade outfits on the other(and they are basically marketing firms with editorial as a small side duty). And some more expensive books.- S C.
