Guest guest
Gargling could be a promising family experiment..Found this quote: " Perhaps one of the most important outcomes (referring to breathing work) is increased vagal nerve tone. The vagus nerve is the primary pacifying nerve in the body. Increased vagus nerve tone activates parts of the body that need activating and quells the parts that need to be relaxed. " http://www.perfectbreathing.com/breath-retraining-vagus-nerve-and-depression-dr-fred-muench I think the best solutions we can find are those that improve our body's ability to self-regulate. The vagus nerve seems a prime candidate in those efforts.Val

Guest guest
Do you know what nicotine patches have to do with the vagus nerve.Or in treatment for our kids. Thanks,Tammy F. I don't think my son has seen quite the benefit I have. I've been googling it like mad myself and can't believe I never made the connection--even after sitting thru presentations on Autism and the Vagus Nerve at a conference. (That's a DAN doc DrJB who ultimately suggests nicotine patches). I even remember at the IA conference a couple of years ago Dr E saying "The vagus nerves is my favorite nerve..." and I can't remember the rest of it. Sleep, fatigue, anxiety, inflammation, stomach emptying, IBS, attention...very interesting list of associated issues. Thanks,Tammy F. http://www.icdrc.org/documents/Link%20between%20the%20Vagus%20Nerve,%20Cholinergic%20Deficit.pdf I don't know if that will work, but you can also google "vagus nerve and autism" and it's the first link. > > > Do you know what nicotine patches have to do with the vagus nerve.Or in > treatment for our kids. Guest guest
Jill, I forget what the reasons are that this inexpensive intervention did not " take off " in ASD community, besides of the known side effects.
