Guest guest
Ok....I'm not a Doctor, and certainly don't have the " longevity " of experience that some of the others do but I AM a damn good Engineer, and diagnostitian and I ask you all to look at it THIS way: Being morbidly obese certainly shortens your life span.... If you are putting in enough vitamins and nutrients, exercising and such, what could shorten your life expectancy? The body is quite simply a machine and any machine, if properly maintained, will run until the parts just wear out.... Lastly, who's to say that ANY life expectancy is shortened? Isn't that up to GOD, ALLAH, The Creator, Supreme Being, Genetic Coding, (insert your particular belief here)? What I DO know is this.....since the surgery, I've felt so much more ALIVE! Before, I didn't care about the next day...NOW I do...and I'm glad for every day that I wake up to and get to live in. And you know what, its EASIER to enjoy these days now....for all the obvious reasons.... Will having the surgery shorten my lifespan?....I doubt it....and like I used to say to my Mother about riding motorcycles, so what....I could get hit by a bus walking down the street this morning.....When its time...its time. Live and enjoy what you have! Don't live in misery..... Just my opinion here....and I could be wrong! Jim Grimes Salinas, CA. Open RNY 11/27/01 441 / 328 So have you seen our website at http://www.jimandkelli.com/ ? Life expectancy I have felt good about my surgery next Wed. (in FOUR DAYS!) until the " life expectancy " issue came up. Everything I have read says it should prolong life and improve health, IF a person is careful to take vitamins and keep protein up. If there is anything out there to the contrary, please repeat it here. I have looked back over all the posts and can't find where this originally came from. PLEASE discuss this, you that are more knowledgeable - I just have a few days. The usual jitters and nerves are bad enough without this.... Guest guest
I would also like to see the original post on this question. But here is my view of it...and it was actually a questions someone had asked me not too long ago. If, as a pre-op I was given 5 years to live. I was approved for the surgery, but I would still have the same 5 years to live, would I have the surgery. My answer was yes. I would rather spend that five years healthier, happier and pain free than obese, inactive and unhappy. IF my life expectancy has been shortened, I am willing to accept that and live out what time I have left as active, vibrant & pain free as possible. While I don't believe that we should be taking outrageous risks (like not taking our supplements, never having blood work, playing chicken in front of semi trucks on the highways, etc.) we do need to live and enjoy what we have. My son was a wonderful, healthy 23 year old college student whose life expectancy was probably another 60 or 70 years. He got a bad case of the " flu " and " strep throat " that wouldn't go away with treatment. Tests a few days later revealed leukemia. No one could tell us why he got it - they don't know the cause. Eight months later, my big, strapping, healthy ONLY child was dead. We never know what tomorrow will bring. We can only be sure of now. I certainly have learned a harsh lesson about living in the future. I want my " nows " to be quality. I may not have quanity, no matter what. Guest guest
Gosh, Sheri, I didn't know that about you, that you had lost a son. And it makes me even more surprised that you are always so positive about everything. You must have a tremendous faith, to be able to go on in life with such a positive attitude. Anyway, just wanted to say again that I admire and aspire to your attitude in life.
