Re: correction: horizontal streaks on back of neck and upper back

I would google Bartonella rashes. Its hard to tell with out a

Hi, my son has some thin horizontal streaks across the top

of his back. They are dark red/purple. They are more along

his shoulders and the back of his neck. I first noticed

two days ago, but I have been watching this closely and it

seems they are now spreading lower. Anyone seen anything

like this before? It is a first for us. Wondering if it is

viral or bacterial related. Could this be associated with

a strep flare? He has not been physically well for the

past few days.

I would seek out a consult with an MD right away, just to rule out

bacterial infection in general. Such can be very serious, even fatal.

Not sure if they will test for Bartonella or even test for bacteria at

all. My experience with mainstream doctors is that they prescribe meds

and then see if they work. But, even so, if you Google, you will find

that those with red streaks should see a doctor immediately.

Bartonella is known to make what looks like purple stretch-marks because

the skin streaks have indents. These streaks fade in color, from skin

tone to red to purple, and vice versa. The streaks may be either

horizontal or vertical and anywhere on the body. The back seems to be

My boy got his rash right after treating for another infection. Somehow

the treatment triggered his Bartonella to appear as a rash. I am sure

he had Bartonella for many years before the rash appeared. If your

experience with mainstream doctors doesn't go well, seek out a health

professional who knows about Bartonella and testing for it. We used Fry

Labs of Arizona to test for it. You can seek out naturopaths, LLMDs or

disclose your state, so people on this list can tell you of doctors in

your area. Keep in mind that we don't mention docs named on the forums;

We live in Portugal and I have been making contacts with specialists in the

states to treat us from afar. I have been given several referels from members

on this list.

I did take my son to the GP today to request an anitbiotic and some topical

antifungal creams. Both the oral symptoms and candida are out of control not

only causing discomfort, but preventing him from eating for about 4 days now.

We took a prescription for augmentin because it has helped with the oral and

sensory issues in the past.

I am concerned because I was trying to keep him off antibiotics for the next few

weeks so I can get some blood work done. Looks like that is not going to

happen. Is it possible that we could still do the provocation tests?

I am reading that Bartonella is not killed by augmentin anyway....

Sorry, I would not know specifics about testing while on augmentin. Even if

Augmentin didn't kill it, it still could trigger it to go dormant which would

decrease the ability to test positive. I know each doctor has their own way of

doing it. Some do recommend taking them off of antibiotics for a few days and

then testing. I imagine it's ok to wait till things settle a bit to do that.

For my family, we have had tickborne infections for many years before we knew

it, so waiting a few more weeks for us would be nothing.
