Guest guest
Hi Sara; Thanks so much for your input... I know meds are a hot topic in some groups so thanks for having the courage to speak up Yes, I know my eldest daughter's system is a mess in every sense of the word... it's just so disheartening... I'm not a newbie at this by any means... I've been at this biomed thing for 8+ years, hardcore, and have done the circuit of Autism DAN conferences/treatments/testing etc always looking for more help, more answers. I am just SO SICK of the " healing regressions " that many practitioners insist must accompany any healing... for us we have seen horrible regressions, and then months to get her back to baseline - forget about improvements. Sorry, venting again. Just feels like nothing will actually help... The thought of continuing on with a child that is so unstable/aggressive, and cleaning up fecal smears and urine twice a day or more is intolerable... I don't even want to think about when she starts her period. Thanks for putting up with my whining. As Fransel said, I am so thankful for all of your input and support. I am looking at all suggestions and seeing how they may help my child. Kim > > > Kim > I know some people will hate me for saying this but you may have to consider a stronger med until you can get to the bottom of her immune problems as a stopgap measure so you can reduce the suffering of your family and child who are in crisis. Guest guest
I think you should consider trying Nutramedix tinctures, like Amantilla (valerian) and Babuna. Anyway, I'd recommend to start with only 1 drop of tincture, even if instructions say 24 drops, considering how sensitive our kids very often are. For sensitive kids starting with too big a dose can create too strong sensations, which in turn will lead to behavior problems. Even if the new supplement is good for them and doing it's job. By the way, members of this group have 50% discount on Nutramedix stuff, if you call to order And there are videos on youtube about the products, with Dr. Lee Cowden himself speaking. Take care, DIna. > > > > > > Kim > > I know some people will hate me for saying this but you may have to consider a stronger med until you can get to the bottom of her immune problems as a stopgap measure so you can reduce the suffering of your family and child who are in crisis. Guest guest
Hello Kim, FranselI have been thinking about you girls a lot, l believe, to a certain point, we all try to avoid drugs, that is why we've chosen biomed, BUT, when a family has done so much, gone through so much, for such long time and the results have not been positive, l think it is time to let go and move to the next step: drugs or whatever it might mean.... You and your family deserve some peace too, you have a right to preserve other members of your family from suffering further damage. I think it is very sad when parents start medicating their kids 2 days after the diagnose and don't even try healing them w alternatives, not your case, YOU girls have done so much! I honestly believe you can be at peace with yourself and the world, if you need to medicate your child, do it, nobody else is in your shoes. I pray they get better, sometimes, medication is not what we expect, but the least you can do is try. We parents pray we don't have to be confronted to such difficult decisions, but l believe most people struggling to help an ASD child is potentially under pressure to do it or not. in our case, we are coming to a point where we must decide whether to put our child on anticonvulsants or not. When l read the feedback, some doing great and some going downhill, l get scared, but treating seizures might be something good for him....or not. Won't know until l try. I am scared to think his brain is under constant fire, and not knowing if the damage is reversible, if he can be helped. Now it downs on me why so many treatments and so little success. Yes, facing this questions is not easy, deciding is not easy, but we will never know unless we give this a try too. Just as much as we've given everything else a try...I am unloading here too.... I am in a crisis today so sorry if l am too direct. I can't talk w my husband about this topic w/o us ending in a huge confrontation, l think he is slowly tired of the whole thing. My friends (few l have) don't fully understand what this is about and explaining turns into an exhausting talk to me. Guest guest
Exactly Isa you are right on your assessments including lack of support or understanding. I am tired explaining also and many don't even want us around as we can be disruptive. I am ok with that - I can just as well do more research in search for answers. This support group has kept me sane and brave to face the next day's challenge.FranselFrom: isaguzmandiaz2@...Sender: BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism Date: Mon, 9 May 2011 19:11:33 +0000To: <BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism >ReplyTo: BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism Subject: Re: Re: Aggression - Valerian and 5HYP Hello Kim, FranselI have been thinking about you girls a lot, l believe, to a certain point, we all try to avoid drugs, that is why we've chosen biomed, BUT, when a family has done so much, gone through so much, for such long time and the results have not been positive, l think it is time to let go and move to the next step: drugs or whatever it might mean.... Guest guest
Hugs to you all!!! I know the feeling of isolation and frustration, and not having anyone to vent to - no one else can begin to comprehend the urgency of what we deal with, but another Mom/parent in the same boat. Thanks Isa and Fransel for your comments about meds... I have been beating myself up for even THINKING about it, but I am wondering if I am just chasing my tail with biomed as we have exhausted pretty much every option over the past 8 years. It's a shame we have to spend every free moment we have researching how to get our kids out of crisis. Isa, I hope you are able to come to a decision about the meds that you are comfortable with. I know how difficult a decision this is! I thank you for your kind and comforting words. Guest guest
Hi Sara; Thanks for your words of support I appreciate your further input about meds. Yes, we have tried antivirals. We've done valtrex, and hosts of herbal antiviral protocols. In the past I have always been doing SOMETHING - whatever treatments I have read on boards that sounds promising and is helping other children. Guest guest
Hi Kim Sounds like you have tried so much. Antivirals are the one thing I haven't done. My daughter is soo much better than she was (PANDAS) and we are still dealing with the autism (DSM !V stuff, like communication) so I was considering antivirals now. We are still looking for a needle in the haystack for more complete recovery. I posted to Fransel about our story with my daughter a day or two back on this forum. It has been a very very difficult journey and I think that your story struck my heart, and I am hoping that your child will come around soon. A friend of mine with ASD child has lyme disease and she recently had to put her kid on risperdal, even though she has done a lot in the years with her DAN doc, and he is now on IV antibiotics. The autoimmune diseases can be brutal for our ASD kids and it is a very difficult journey. I hope you find the answers you need to get your child well. Prayers, Sara > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Kim > > > > > I know some people will hate me for saying this but you may have to consider a stronger med until you can get to the bottom of her immune problems as a stopgap measure so you can reduce the suffering of your family and child who are in crisis. Guest guest
Also Kim, I haven't tried homeopathy....don't know if you have tried that. Guest guest
Hi Sara; So glad to hear your daughter is much better from treating Pandas Yes, our kids systems are so messed up that they can't handle any assault - every exposure whether it be in utero, by vaccine or due to everyday personal exposure to bacteria/virus further complicates things the healing picture. Lots of people have had tremendous success with antivirals - I hope your child will be one of those that respond immediately. Are you going to try prescription or natural source antivirals? Thanks again for your kind words We have tried homeopathy in the past (homotoxicology) and I am still using this approach for my 2 younger autistic kids with some success. My eldest was WAY too sensitive for the remedies of this method, so I am considering classical homeopathy... using one of the big (expensive) names - with close monitoring hopefully. Guest guest
Kim, When you say classical homeopathy, do you mean sequential homeopathy? If so, I have heard that Rudi Verspoor is very good. I know a mom who is treating her whole family with him, including her ASD son, and has been very happy with him. I will be using Acyclovir, I think. But I just found out my daughter's liver enzymes are elevated from the antifungal (Lamisol) ....so...time to switch antifungals first..... Wanted to wait for my next DAN apt next week before starting w/antiviral. I did not know until reading this last post by you that you have three children with autism. May God give you the strength you need on this journey. Guest guest
Thanks again Fransel and Sara Your words of kindness are touching. Yes, your personal strength is certainly tested in situations like these... Actually classical homeopathy is different from sequential. Classical involves treating symptoms as they present, and sequential is sort of " undoing " damage from present working back to birth (i.e every sickness, every vaccine etc). Yes, I've heard Vespoor is good and I will certainly keep him in mind when I gather up more strength for another " fight " . Yes, i think acyclovir is another name for valtrex - some people do have great success. And yes, we had to wait for elevated liver enzymes to come down prior to trying as well. Guest guest
Girls,Just One word to clarify on the difference between valtrex and acyclovir:Valtrex (active substance valacyclovir) is not the same as acyclovir (active substance is acyclovir), difference means: valacyclovir contains the aminoacid VALINE which seems to be crucial in weakening the viral wall. Acyclovir inhibits replication while Valine weakens the virus, so it is stronger than acyclovir alone. If you go for antivirals, this is what l have done with a child l help: (unfortunately not mine, we didnt get that far) start w acyclovir for 2 weeks, 5ml/for every 25pounds weight, 3 x day. I had him Stay like this 2 weeks, then moved him to Valacyclovir, 250 mgs starting w dinner, 3 weeks later 250 mgs breakfast and dinner. This has worked well w this particular kid, but again, every child is different, so have your child evaluated before starting any treatment. I am just informing on what l have seen w this child, hope to do this w mine in a near future. Valacyclovir addresses herpes virus and related viruses, l have also heard it might help w intracellular parasites. This recommendations l started on this child are similar to Dr K. Sewarts protocol (www.neurosensorycenterofamerica). Guest guest
Kim Thanks for explaining the difference in homeopathies. I guess the two antivirals are different, but my doc says Valtrex breaks down into acyclovir in the body (I think that's what he said...) so I believe they are similar but don't know how. It will take time to restore her immune and behavioral health and you need to buy some time. > > > > > > > > > > Best wishes > > > > > > > > > > Sara > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Thanks, Isa. The dosing is perplexing, because it seems to vary amongst docs (for antivirals). I just read Dr. Goldberg's book, The Myth of Autism. For acyclovir he recommends 20 mg/kg 4x/day. It is a LOT by comparison to what some DAN's prescribe....I guess it's time to start researching again.....Apparently it can be tricky because if the dosing is not enough the virus can mutate and you can make things worse. Guest guest
Hi Kim, My daughter also did horribly on homotoxicology about a year ago. We just started up again and she is doing very well on it(knock wood, not many things have helped her). this time we are getting unda products. I don't know if that is a new protocol or just what tesed well for my daughter. Maybe it will be something you can come back to and it will help. Good luck. Re: Aggression - Valerian and 5HYP Hi Sara; So glad to hear your daughter is much better from treating Pandas Yes, our kids systems are so messed up that they can't handle any assault - every exposure whether it be in utero, by vaccine or due to everyday personal exposure to bacteria/virus further complicates things the healing picture. Guest guest
Wow - thanks for the detailed post Isa! What kind of effects did the meds have on the child during, and what improvements were noted after?
