Dear Kim and Sara,We just have to weigh our options. I am not against behavior meds and especially in dire instances I may resort to them too. I just want to see if there is still a stone left unturned. As well I wonder what has worked for others. I know risperidal caused hell for us. There is so much to review it is quite overwhelming. I am a working mother but many times I am just focused on lyme and autism searches. Hard to concentrate but none worse than when school calls for my son to be removed from the classroom (again this morning). I guess 5HTP 50mg given before school did not work. Sigh.FranselSender: BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism Date: Mon, 09 May 2011 17:00:11 -0000To: <BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism >ReplyTo: BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism Subject: Re: Aggression - Valerian and 5HYP Hi Sara; Thanks so much for your input... I know meds are a hot topic in some groups so thanks for having the courage to speak up :)Yes, I know my eldest daughter's system is a mess in every sense of the word... it's just so disheartening... I'm not a newbie at this by any means... I've been at this biomed thing for 8+ years, hardcore, and have done the circuit of Autism DAN conferences/treatments/testing etc always looking for more help, more answers.I am just SO SICK of the " healing regressions " that many practitioners insist must accompany any healing... for us we have seen horrible regressions, and then months to get her back to baseline - forget about improvements. Sorry, venting again. Just feels like nothing will actually help... The thought of continuing on with a child that is so unstable/aggressive, and cleaning up fecal smears and urine twice a day or more is intolerable... I don't even want to think about when she starts her period. Thanks for putting up with my whining. As Fransel said, I am so thankful for all of your input and support. I am looking at all suggestions and seeing how they may help my child. Kim >> > Kim> I know some people will hate me for saying this but you may have to consider a stronger med until you can get to the bottom of her immune problems as a stopgap measure so you can reduce the suffering of your family and child who are in crisis. Trust me I have been there with what you are describing. It will take time to restore her immune and behavioral health and you need to buy some time.> Best wishes> Sara

Risperdal did NOT work for our daughter. But Abilify did. Again, let me say

that it is a stopgap, not a cure. I personally HATE antipsychotics. If you are

in a crisis it calls for crisis measures. You can still keep on working on

underlying medical issues while you buy some time, then slowly, very slowly wean

off the stuff and see if it will stick.

btw, the school removing your son from the classroom by calling you does not

sound like a behavior plan on their part.

Blessings,

Sara

Thank you Sara. I will investigate Abilify and side effects. It is crisis mode again today as students were evacuated from classroom while aides kept my son from attacking others.FranselSender: BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism Date: Tue, 10 May 2011 01:23:19 -0000To: <BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism >ReplyTo: BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism Subject: Re: Aggression - Valerian and 5HTP and Behavior Meds FranselRisperdal did NOT work for our daughter. Hi Fransel,I have had problems with my e-mail, and am just catching up. I think 50 mg of 5 HTP probably was not enough. I give Stan 100mg (1/2 the dose suggested by his doc) and he is 45 lbs, so you can obviously go much higher than the 50 mg. The Valerian could also work, but you need to give it time to set in. Sometimes it takes a week or so to see benefits. What is it that is setting him off?  Your school should be looking for triggers and then find a way to eliminate or decrease the things that set him off.  Thank you Sara.
