Dear , You are very kind for taking the time to respond to my desperate call for answers. The information you shared here is so valuable and makes very good sense. I am going to look at all the items line by line. I am curious to find out if you are also treating with antibiotics. I have put MB12 with Folinic on hold but now will reinstate. Apple Pectin seems to be helping with die offs but what is the dosage? I am giving 1 cap 2 hrs after supps much like charcoal. Can I increase to 2 caps per dosage 3x a day? I also found Grapefruit pectin. I am giving it like apple pectin as an alternate. Bottle suggests to give 1-3 caps per meal but does not say to give away from vitamins unlike apple pectin. Only concern is my son's IGE is +1 for grapefruit. These pectins plus Bach flower rescue remedy (Bach given many times in the day orally and rubbed behind neck) have somewhat calmed my son's aggressive behaviors. He is still covering his ears and eyes a lot. When he does that I give him his space and quiet. Otherwise he will bolt and aggress by hurting people or destroying objects. He threw his favorite Apple computer and damaged it. No more watching videos on you tube (a good thing). I have stopped giving melatonin during the day - now only giving time released 2.5mg at bedtime and maybe some nights he may need 5mg? Thanks for alerting me to melatonin use. His doctor even gave me the go ahead to administer during the day. What was she thinking? But then she was the one who suggested Valium! We are waiting for results of his OAT test for oxalates and yeast. Also waiting on amino acids, neurotransmitters, hormone panel and strep-PANDAS. We have not checked for heavy metals again since after finishing 2yrs of IV chelation DMPS-EDTA a year ago before struck with lyme. Maybe we should test for metals again? HBOT on hold for a year.He also has had raw bloody lips for a month now. Doc prescribed acyclovir topical ointment for 4 days. Literature says it is a cure for herpes. That is disconcerting if he has it as he loves to kiss me goodnight. I started giving him coconut oil with his meals and he loves the taste. I should look more into homeopathics like you suggested since having success with Bach remedy. Maybe my son's body is wanting more of this herbal stuff.I can't wait for his behaviors to subside. Peace and quiet time is much needed in our house right now. His 14 year old brother (not on spectrum) is starting to get affected. Many thanks for the great advice here and to everyone who has responded to my plea. God bless you all! This is part of the "flight or fight" response that is so hard for our kids to keep in check. I have come to realize that the root of most of my son's problems are his sensory issues and his reactions to overload. The school needs to recognize this and adaptations need to be made so that the sensory overload is minimized wherever possible. I am a bit surprised that you are using melatonin throughout the day, as this is something I have only heard being used for sleep issues. The secretion of melatonin follows a daily rhythm governed by the body'smaster clock. This clock is located in the brain and is synchronized by regularexposure to the 24-hour cycle of darkness and light. Melatonin's natural secretion in the body peaks at night, so giving it during the day seems counter intuitive and could be causing his biological systems great confusion. Melatonin is a derivative from serotonin which is a calming neurotransmitter. Not all serotonin is converted to Melatonin. Serotonin is used for proper functioning in the nervous system, so I would think that you would be better off increasing serotonin and dopamine levels for daytime calming, reduced anxiety and aggression.  It should also be noted during puberty melatonin levels are naturally reduced in a body, so giving it in high levels is probably creating further hormone  imbalances and confusion to your son's body. In fact his body may have interpreted the excess melatonin as a need to reduce serotonin production, which in turn may adversely affect his central nervous system and produce more anxiety and more sensory overload. Some people use GABA for calming, but that may only be effective if your child is deficient in aminobutyric acid. I try to reproduce natural balance in the body so we are using 5 HTP (5 hydroxytryptophan) for serotonin production and Tyrosine for dopamine, as well as Holy Basil for cortisol reduction. Cortisol is a hormone released when the body is under stress, and Holy Basil is an adaptogen which means that it adapts to various needs and helps to restore the natural balance in the body. Since we started using 5 HTP, Tyrsoine, and Holy Basil my son no longer bites his hand and hits his head when overwhelmed, frustrated or in pain. He still has many sensory issues, but appears to be better able to manage the anxiety and fear.Have you had a heavy metals and minerals test done? Your son may also be deficient in magnesium which helps to calm the body. Heavy metals also disregulate the body, and you will need to detox heavy metals if you hope to get rid of the lyme. Also look at parasites like worms/tapeworms. Tapeworms excrete neurotoxins which can lead to aggression, and are often found in bodies with reduced immune capacity.Inflammation also plays a role in aggression. You may need to look at natural antiinflammatories to help with that. I know many people are hesitant to address more than one thing at a time, but I think it is important to help the body deal with all its challenges with as few supplements as possible. So it is important to pick supplements that do more than one thing at a time. For example Olive leaf extract - antiviral, antifungal, anitinflammatory and is known to deal with a huge variety of bacteria etc,Resveratrol - increase cognitive speed and is thought to be useful in fighting retroviruses, cancer, HIV, etc.Cat's claw - an immune modulator which is excellent for retroviruses and many bacteria etc. I also believe it has had a part in reducing my son's aggression.Bromelain - anti-inflammatory, helps with food digestion, helps to breakdown fibrin which is often key to helping your supplements deal with the biofilm which forms in the gutTurmeric - anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, helps with worms, helps the liver, stimulates bile productionChlorella - is a super food which contains many amino acids, chlorophyl, tyrosine, and helps with detox because it releases and binds heavy metals.Cod Liver Oil with vitamin A and D - anti-inflammatory and good for brain function. If you want a supplement to be better absorbed you need to give it with an oil.Coconut oil - Medium chain fatty acids, excellent for brain function, contains laurine, and is also an anti-fungal. Seems better able to handle sensory input.MB12 Nasal Spray - critical to the methylation cycle which detoxifies the body and often helps with speechFolic acid - which should be supplemented when using MB12 and often helps with calmingB6 - many of our children are deficient in B6 which is important for digestion of proteins, fats and carbohydratesVitamin C - powerful antioxidantCalcium/Magnesium supplement - Stan is low in calcium and magnesiumIf you are high in heavy metals the metals displace other minerals so it is important that you replenish good minerals while detoxing the heavy metalsGrapefruit seed extract - natural antibiotic  good for many types of bacteriaPectin - from apples or banana - binder for die off and the fruits have lots of good vitamins tooVega whole food optimizer - great nutritional supplement and ingredients to help with hormone balanceiodine - almost every body is deficient in iodine unless you eat lots of seaweed and the thyroid needs sufficient levels to maintain hormonal balanceSorry this became such a long winded e-mail but I wanted to share what has been helpful for us. Everything has been connected for us and just one thing has not counteracted a problem entirely, using things that work together has been crucial in seeing accelerated gains. Reducing inflammation, killing bacteria, viruses and parasites, mopping up die off, eliminating heavy metals, getting rid of biofilm and healing the gut, restoring vitamin and mineral levels and re-establishing the bodies overall balance have all addressed different parts of our puzzle.Dear  My son's aggression stems from sensory overload as he covers his ears and eyes, does not like to turn on lights, wants to feel my nails rub against his palms. He also gets frustrated and overwhelmed by commands. He processes info too slowly and is always getting stuck with transitions. He was not like this before the lyme hit a year ago. He is almost non verbal.FranselFrom:  and Stan Sender: BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism Date: Tue, 3 May 2011 10:41:56 -0700To: <BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism >ReplyTo: BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism Subject: Re: Valium alternative It may be ok to initially give as much as 3000 mg for asomeone that has extremely low levels and is large enough to tolerate that amount, but remember that L Theanine also contributes to the production of GABA.  How old is your child and how much does he weigh? The question of too much is based on the weight of the person taking the supplements and what the levels are before you start to supplement. We had blood tests for amino acids ordered by our pediatrician. The lab reference range is so wide that most of his results were interpreted as normal by the MDs, but I have been supplementing for the amino acids that were near or below the low level of the reference range and I have seen some great results. When I received the test results I researched the function of each amino acid by searches on the internet and compared that information to the behaviour that he presented with.  He is very anxious with a strong fight or flight response. He would often bite his hand and hit his head when he is overwhelmed. By adding foods to his diet that contain or produce the amino acids he was lacking in, as well as giving amino acid supplements I have seen a great reduction in his self injurious behaviour. I based starting dosage on what our DAN doctor suggested, and adjusted up or down based on observing the changes in my son.  The calming supplements that produced these results for us are 5 HTP (Griffonia) which contributes to serotonin production and Tyrosine which contributes to dopamine production. His test levels were quite near the bottom of the reference range. It is important to note that I also start on low dosages and I have not had to use large amounts to see results. 100 mg of 5 HTP and 125 mg of tyrosine is all it takes. Now that he has been on these for 1 month I will be adding some other amino acids that were also low to see what more progress we can get. The other supplements he currently gets focus on antiviral, antiinflammatory and antifungal as well as stress reduction and methylation. At this time he also gets bromelain, cod liver oil with vitamin D, turmeric,  folic acid, B12, niacin, resveratrol, OLE, cat's claw, coconut oil, and Holy Basil. I also give him Vega Whole Food Optimizer, and chlorella. For die off, look for foods that contain pectin like banana or apple, and help detox the liver the and kidneys with a detox tea.Can you give more details surrounding the violence? Also don't forget to look at any sensory issues your child may have. Does the violence occur when their is a lot of sensory overload or too high a demand on performance or compliance. Aggression is often a response to fear and the need to feel safe or the need to gain control of one's environment. If so, then the environment needs to be adjusted as well as addressing neurotransmitter issues. If it were me, I would get the plasma amino acid tests done ASAP or if you think you can, you may want to stop everything and see what behaviour you get after a few days of his body getting everything out of his system.Hope this is helpful and that you see some improvement soon. Hello Ana,How much GABA is too much? I was told that it was ok to give as much as 3000mg per day. What tests are there for GABA? I also give L Theanine.Sent from my iPad Have you had tests that show he needs GABA. Too much GABA  can produce exactly the opposite of what you want to achieve and can increase aggression. On 2-May-11, at 9:17 PM, franselw@... wrote:Thanks. I just bought the Bach flower rescue remedy. Hope it does the job. I've also increased the GABA and Melatonin. Holding off on valium as I got scared after postings here warned me of side effects.FranselFrom: Tammy Farmer Sender: BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism Date: Mon, 02 May 2011 22:01:19 -0500To: <BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism >ReplyTo: BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism Subject: Re: Valium I forgot about the Rescue Remedy. My son got some relief with using it as needed.I went by the instructions on the bottle. I used it also.I thought it was great until(about 2 weeks into it) I started getting toxins pulling from my tissues(I think that is what was happening),by using it.I think it was pulling too quickly so I got scared of it.My babesia flared like mad.     Tammy F. I called the Vitamin Shoppe and they have the bach flower rescue remedy. I will just get the most expensive kind. How do you give it? Away from anything? I will google Modifilan source. Thanks for your suggestion. They're also good for die off. Does your son seem to be in pain?  Valium My son is extremely violent today - DAN doc is putting him temporarily on valium 5mg up to 2x daily rather than giving anti psychotic meds until we are able to treat lyme with antibiotics. Any thoughts anyone? Sorry for sounding desperate.Fransel
