Guest guest
Kim, The list is very very long in terms of supplements and has evolved over the last couple of years. Again, I am not a doc. Please talk to your doc about this stuff. Some of the other calming supps we have used and continue to use in addition to melatonin, have been L-Tryptophan, L-Theanine, and inositol. Then there are many which we have used to help the detox pathways. While the later does not directly relate to calming, it indirectly relates to calming because if your child is toxic, she is going to be anxious and if she is anxious she will likely have abberant behaviors if she has ASD. (Toxicity contributes to anxiety) Then there are others we use to help with inflammation, and others to help with nutritional deficiencies. These areas (deficiencies and inflammation) also contribute to abberant behavior. If it all sounds like a tangled web, it is because it is --- it is very complex. And don't forget about diet which is the foundation of all of this. Have you done sufficient food elimination, i.e. taken out offending foods which will cause the anxiety and the abberant behavior in so many ASD kids? That should be the first step before adding the supplements. What worked for us was SCD with a GAPS flair. For some reason (which is explained in the book Breaking the Vicious Cycle) grains can really set some people off. SCD has been a life-saver for my daughter. Hope this helps.
