Guest guest
Hi SimoneSounds very exciting. I think you can bring the chess pieces down, and start putting something down on paper. So, you want to go to Italy, what do you have to do in order to do that? I would write down a list and make sure that everything on the list can be done, and done in good enough time. Break the whole expedition down into manageable chunks, and tackle them one at a time.If you've got a lot to manage at home, taking on a new "project" like this will seem daunting, but broken down into little steps, I think it will be manageable.Personally, I wouldn't listen to the "am I holding my value to firmly" story - sounds like your mind trying to convince you to live the easy life, which is safer (all your mind really cares about) but less fulfillingCiao! xTo: ACT_for_the_Public Sent: Monday, 3 October 2011, 11:37Subject: ClarityHi,I am wondering if you guys can help me get clear about something.I have been very busy of late juggling family, work, home, etc. Things have been pretty stressful just running a busy home.Next year I am thinking of taking a huge leap by flying to Italy to visit my son at Uni.At the moment the chess peices are all over the place coming up with all sorts of stuff. 'What if you freak out....'This is a step too far'.....' If you fail you'll let everyone down. 'If you back out you'll let everyone down'......get the picture? This is adding to my general stress and I am worried about my blood pressure!Am I holding this as a value too tightly? What is the value? Exploration and excitement. Fun and Expansion. Showing my daughter another culture, participating fully in the lives of my children. Plus I have always wanted to go to Italy! ( They seem to hold ACT conferences there a lot - why is that?)So what I am asking is - do you think I am bashing myself over the head with this value., holding it too tightly ( and how do you know if a value is held too tight?) - if it is causing me a lot of stress. Or should I just expect that stress goes with the territory and get on with it - adding to an already loaded situation. Also I don't have a lot of time to practice 'smaller steps' so it is just a case of to leap or not to leap - that is the question! Will it tip me over the edge?Any thoughts appreciatedSimone------------------------------------For other ACT materials and list serves see www.contextualpsychology.orgIf you do not wish to belong to ACT_for_the_Public, you may unsubscribe by sending an email to ACT_for_the_Public-unsubscribe@...!
