Guest guest
I haven't posted alot lately, because I have just really been upset. I do read all the posts everyday. My job is extremely stressful and my position has changed 3 times within a month. This is because of closing down a location and moving the work here and they keep changing people around. I don't like change and can barely handle the stress of just a normal job. But, I really need a job and I like the work - all three jobs. My son-in-law and daughter are moving back in with us and that contributes to stress, even though I really don't mind it that much. Last weekend my heart was racing so bad, I thought I might have to go to the hospital. But, I started taking my Zoloft again. I had stopped because of Atkins last year. Well in a day I was completely calm again. The doctor thinks I must have a severe chemical imbalance and my body goes haywire without the serotin. But, for the last year I have been trying to get my blood sugar down eating under 20 carbs a day. I have exercised, etc. and have never been able to get it under around 170 - 200 in the morning and 125 to 150 at night. Well everyday on Zoloft it has gotten lower and right now it is 80. I have been eating around 40 carbs a day for the last week. I lowered my calories and upped the carbs to lose weight. Of course, I still haven't lost any. I do take 1/2 of an Amaryl a day, but I have been doing that for the last month and have only seen about 25 point reduction. So the Zoloft must really work. I do feel almost dead at 80, but I know I will get used to it. Guest guest
Phyllis, I was on Zoloft several years ago, it was nothing like a sugar pill......It really calmed me down --- to the point that I felt like sleeping all of the time. It also ruined my sex drive...... I was only on it for about 6 months and improved enough to change over to Bupropion (Wellbutrin) . It has almost no side effects and I actually didn't feel any side effects. I was on that for a couple of years then I was able to go on my own...... Did have to slowly go off the Wellbutrin tho. Guest guest
Sorry. I don't mind Rush, but that had to be a quack releasing the information. Those meds have extreme reactions on the bodies ability to produce Seratonin and should be started gradually and stopped gradually. Sugar pills work fine on some people who do not have a true chemical imbalance in the first place. It was a very dangerous statement to make as some people might stop taking medication that is all that keeps them able to function. My own daughter has Tourettes Syndrome. She had poor impulse control and no anger control. After weekends with her father, who wouldn't give her the Haldol she needed, she would come home and start tearing me and the house apart. the doctor told me to find someone to hold her down and medicate her. I did and an hour after her haldol she was perfectly normal and calm. She also has obsessive compulsive disorder and the Paxil gives her considerable relief...not total, from that. Blanket statements about how any specific medications can or will affect any specific individuals should never be made...for or against. Guest guest
Debby, there are other reasons for giving anti-depressants than just depression. I have several pain syndromes and can't take any codine or synthetic codine based meds. I take neurontin, dolabid and darvocette. It has been shown that by adding an anti-depressant (sometimes awhile to find the right one), they actually enhance the effects of the pain meds without having to increase those.
