You should be testing first thing when you wake up, before each meal and one and two hours after each meal - at least to start - so you can find out how your body reacts to foods. Do you have insurance that covers diabetic supplies? Vicki

I'd give it a week or two before you get discouraged. Our bodies do not like to change the normal routine, so it takes awhile to jump start any metabolic changes. Hang in there, write everything down and test, test, test. btw, even walking around the block will help significantly. And it might help to watch your fats for awhile. Guest guest
Dear Bobbie; Have hope. It will get better and you will figure it all out. My son was diagnosed with diabetes two weeks before his ninth birthday (he is now almost 12). He is on four shots of insulin and checks at least four times a day. He has adapted!!!! It does happen. At school he even checks right in the classroom. Then he gets a friend to squeeze his arm and he inject insulin right on the spot..... Please write and we will all answer you and give you encouragement. n
Guest guest
Well, I think that most diabetics go through a process like you are in now... Terror, anger, denial, and such are all part of the process. And realizing that it's a life long disease isn't easy... Testing and all that " crazy stuff " will get easier along the way. You aren't alone, you're just the newest member in a very exclusive club... I can't say anything about GDM, but I know women who have had very successful pregnancies after being diagnosed. Type 2, diet, exercise, glucophage (2000mg/day) Diagnosed March 1998, born June 1947. Initial Blood Glucose - 670 Latest HbA1c 5.7 (unknown) Hello. I am a 26 year old female who was just diagnosed with diabetes. My life has been very turned upside down. Thankfully I am not on isulin yet but may be in the nest week. Other changes have been very hard though. My diet is extrememly restricted. I have been advised to hav emy tubes tied because I was gestational with both pregnancies, so it would be best not to have anymore. I think the hardest thing is knowing that this is something that will be there for the rest of my life. That I will have to test my sugar levels and all this other crazy stuff. If anybody feels the same way or has words of emcouragement please email me. I am very confused thenk you.. Bobbie

Guest guest
Welcome Joe and all the new members also. (unknown) > > Hello everyone, > > My name is Joe and I'm a 50 yr old male that has type 2 diabetes. So far for the past year I have been able to keep my numbers well within line. anywhere from 95 to 115. But the past month has been very stressful for me and it has caused some problems with my sugar levels. Besided diabetes I have severe neuropothy in my feet, thyroid disorder, sleep apnea, hypertension and a few other things that escape me at 6 am. Anyway glad to be here and hopefully we all will learn something new and helpful. May God bless and enrich our lives each and every day. > > Joe > > > > --------------------------------- >
Guest guest
Amy Keep writing NOW because that will help you get back op. I am enjoying reading journals on the journal list. Maybe that's an idea for you. A little more accountability. Thank you, too, for the kind thoughts on my collie. So far nothing, but we haven't given up hope. (unknown) Congratulations, Amy, on quitting smoking! That is such a big step toward health! I am proud of you! and Tory, I just wanted to say I'll keep your collie in my prayers tonight. My sweet kitty Raphael, who's gone now, once ran away for three days but he did finally come back! He was hungry as all get out and looked like he'd been spooked by something or someone. He never quite acted the same as before that, wasn't as bold as he'd been beforehand, but he was home, at least. I hope your dog finds his way home, too... My food is out of control, I am journaling it, but I won't elaborate, since I have no excuse, really. Just not caring very much about losing weight right now and feeling anxious, but there are no excuses for eating 40 plus points in a day...so I'll be back writing more frequently again when I get back on program. <sigh> Amy ---------------------------------

Guest guest
Hi Kim, and in addition to what Janie said, make sure you call a doc before going to find out from the office if they indeed prescibe it. Sometimes people list top docs when they are actually top quacks... Also, I found my doc at acam.org, others have as well. They tried to tell me I had fibro, too. I have talked to some more enlightenned and educated drs since then who understand these things a bit better. Fibro is a brain disease, where your pain receptors are turned on too high (in very basic terms), and its actually quite uncommon, and should only be dx'ed when no other abnormality is found. Docs often use fibro and CFS as an " out " , and not look for what is lurking deeper. Thats why fibro can be treated with T3, because in many cases its really hypothyroid and not a brain problem. Unfortunately for the rest of us, when we are hypo, becoming hypo, or have an autoimmune disease and undiagnosed, we get told w have fibro, many of us find our " fibro " (that we never really had) magicily disappears once medicated properly. So, while it is rough sometimes to find a doc who prescribes armour, they are out there. Always interview the office first (many of us figured this out the hard way) before going. Good for you for being aware natural thyroid still exists! nancy > Hi everyone, > > My name is Kim and I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia 5 years ago and > Hypothyrodism a few days ago. > > My doctor wants to put me on Synthroide. Guest guest
Hi Kim! I'm a Kim too, and also newly arrived on the list :-) Your post reminds me of my experience. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia about 8 years ago and the more reading I'm doing about hypothyroid, the more I think I don't have fibro at all. In fact, I've been thinking a lot about the swings in my body and mood over long multi-year time-spans, and I can't help but wonder if my body has been battling hypothyroid since I was a teenager. I've had major cycles of weight gain and loss, issues with sleep quality, muscle pain, and depression. Anyway, sounds like we're in a similar boat! -Kim > Hi Kim, > > and in addition to what Janie said, make sure you call a doc before going to > find out from the office if they indeed prescibe it.
