ACT for the layman

I am appreciating being on the listserv .... I am learning much. Somehow I feel

there are many people who probably do not enter this listserv who can benefit

well from this approach.\

As a layman ... and perhaps beyond ... I still work on different ways to express

and understand vocabulary - experiential avoidance, willingness, defusion. I

mean here that I don't just put in a new word, but use a phrase that is

descriptive.

Also, I see most discussions that make one point, several or show a sequence a

steps that are taken. I also see the Heliflex (sp?) concept used which is more

like the spokes of a wheel .... where a layman can benefit from seeing and

understanding the rim of the wheel. does have a diagram in the

later pages of 'Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Life. It is quite simple and

useful. I believe that a layman and others would benefit from seeing the ACT

process as an extensive circle or spiral. And with each revolution can do

better.

I do realize that life is not that simple .... yet expressing it in that way can

be useful. I am working on one such model .... and after any feedback I get on

this post ... will send that out.

I did a search of " layman " for yahoo groups .... scores have the word layman in

their title or opening paragraph. I have also attended self help groups OA - 12

step, Recovery International .... these have many laymen attending. I gained

much from these groups and today I realize that ACT is my best route. I actually

believe that ACT ... or the Third Wave in general would be ideal to become a

national self help group where both our " public " and the " laymen " can join

together.

What do you think ... or should I say 'not think' of this.
