Guest guest
That amazing child. I do hope he's feeling all better now -- I meant to sympathize over his rash and your subsequent struggles (nothing in your life ever seems to work out " the easy way " ...which is, no doubt, why you are such a strong person...) -- but my dog obsession swept me away. Fine motor skills - you know, pencil-grip, printing, cutting, pasting, etc. Awkward grip, low hand-strength, improper body positioning....'s fine motor skills are just horrible. To get him to print anything legibly, we need to sit beside him and push his wrist lightly down onto the table - otherwise, he grips the pencil at the top and angles his elbow out like a bird in flight with his arm about 6 inches off the surface, making his printing huge and completely illegible. Guest guest
I'll have to scan mitchels , but it's basically a big wide M (that starts in the middle of the page, and from the bottom) then i t (or it can look like " x " ) c (backwards) h (backwards) e (kind of backwards upside down, it may be in flight I'm not sure) and an " l " floating around some where the L may be down here if he's run out of room........ and Jacquie...safe to assume I'm being sarcastic oh...most of the time... Especially after I've put the children to bed about 5 times tonight... Mitchel insisted on cold medicine.. he doesn't have a cold, he's dizzy from spinning himself around for 1/2 hour...he wanted medicine for dizzy, and insisted on the cold meds...*sigh* Kerri Re: The Writing on the Chalkboard > I'm sorry I was being sarcastic because Mitchel has very BAD Fine motor skills... Guest guest
That's great!! holding that pencil is a huge hurdle! Wow.. I'm impressed, Mitchel has reverted back to using either hand... he was using the left, now he'll use either!! And neither one is neater than the other, they both suck!! Kerri Re: The Writing on the Chalkboard > So cool. I am so proud of our Putter! > > how's his fine motor as he's writing, anyway? 's SUCKS. He looks pretty good. His OT pointed out that he had finally mastered the correct grasp and his teacher says he is one of the neatest in his class. He is endlessly fixing and tidying up his alphabet printing; he got very angry at me tonight for being too messy, LOL. I was trying hard too! Maybe he calls Sophie " girl " because that's such a distinction in your house, with her being the only sister---EVERYONE there has a name, after all, so " girl " is way more descriptive...it may make more sense to him? Guest guest
- Salli, I think that its probably easier for him write her name than to say it. I think there must be an age where our kids go through this writing bug, did a lot of this last year. He wrote down a lot of strange stuff, like dont walk, and Mandee (maybe he likes women's clothes). I agree, though, that it is a reflection of Putters awareness of the world. I think sometimes people think our kids are not " in this world " because they dont use the more conventional speech to express themselves. Guest guest
- This is one question I can never really understand. My doesnt have really good handwriting, although can draw a few things pretty good, and uses scissors, etc. In fact, I would like to see him discharged from OT this year, since hes not really learning any new skills from her. I mean a lot of kids that are young simply have bad handwriting and need practice. I guess the OT looks at the hand grip. What I cant figure out, is, how come so many doctors got by. I am sorta of serious, they have terrible handwriting, even when theyre not doing 18 hour shifts(being tired and overworked could be an excuse). I think some people will just never really have neat handwriting. I think sometimes our kids are judged against unrealistic standards.
