Warning!! Keeps tabs on your child's thyroid levels if they have lyme

We spent a full day in the ER/ICU with my son, having HYPER thyroid - they first thought he was in thyroid storm, which is SUPER serious, and life threatening, most people do not survive. The DR said my son had the highest level, they have seen all year in anyone and were surprised he had not had a heart attack or stroke.

And this is related to the lyme of course!

I would watch about using Iodine supplementation, not to say you should not use it

but you need to know the warning signs, if your child should slip into hyper thyroid.

Many of our kids have speech issues, so you have to watch more how they are acting and are behaving.

Here are a few warning tips: increased respirations, racing heart, fatigue, moody, waking up during the night, fever, lack of enjoyment from anything they love to do, a stark look in their eyes like they just don't feel well, anxiety, tremors in hands, etc...

* Also be prepared to answer about vaccines, if your child had a flu shot, or tenaus, and anything else they can shoot in them. I was shocked how soon in the information

they were requesting, if he had any of these vaccines recently, as they were ready to

bring him one in right away!

We had nice nurses and DR's, but they had paper work messed up and gave us wrong prescriptions to some other patient on discharge. And it was not a busy time at the hospital, I just think they are being pushed to do so many other things, too much paper work, or working too many shifts. I even questioned every medication they brought in to give my son.

My son has also been experiencing serious thyroid symptoms like the ones you mentioned but last time we checked 6-8 wks ago- labs were normal. now he is having severe narcolepsy, temp dysregulation and racing heart occasionally. Im really worried as he has a soccer game that he plans to play at noon today and Im praying it is not thyroid storm. Im going to look it up now. Thanks for the info!! we are waiting on labs that were done the other day in the midst of there symptoms so hopefully it will be more telling as sytoms seem hyper and the hypo. accupuncturist said the area considered the neck was racing when he did pulse diagnosis a few days ago. Im a wreck over all this. Appt at UCSF is this coming Wed but Im not sure they can really help as LLND said it is acute crisis w the virus' etc that we uncovered. Starting him on diflucan and then valtrex but wondering if that makes sense during this acute stage or not??~

My son could not stand up without his heart racing. I do urge you to take your

son's vital signs at resting, and then standing up, or even after briefly

walking around. You can google for normal range.

I think my son could have stroked out if we had not gotten him to the hospital.

My son's labs were ( lab actually said they stopped trying to put in a number

because it went off the chart, and they could not even give it a number.

TSH - 0.006 -- normal range is 0.450-4.500

T40 free 7.77 ---- normal range is 0.93-1.60

What would cause something like this? Very scarey! My son has lyme and he is tested as HYPOthyroid, so we're giving kelp noodles and low doses of I.Pam Sender: praboli@...

, i dont know if this helps or not, but i mentioned i had thyroid issues and i thought i was near a storm.

I was informed that a virus can actually cause you to feel your heart is beating harder. there are many things that can cause this.

till its solved, i would support the adrenals, in a nutritional way, good fats, lots of protien several times a day, but very importantly, electrolytes. soemthing good and substantial.

Whole foods carries Electrolyte Stamina, in a blue bottle. There is a liquid form, but its not as good as the tablets.

They also have packets and they are better nutritionally than emergenC. good luck.

Thank you ! and thanks Allie too for additional info!

Will just keep close eye on him for now I guess as symptoms are gone at the moment (they come and go a few times a day and narcolepsy is esp bad at night and early AM) and keep giving electolytes (we use Biopure and Selectrolytes per DK's office currently but will look into yours) as I have been and protein which he had a lot of this morn. Will watch vitals at game especially closely- luckily he just learned in PE how to do this himself recently. Symptoms got really bad after we completed an iodine loading test a couple of weeks ago and still they havent gone away like they had before. My son also had a goiter biopsied back in July...

Just curious- was your son on iodine, Allie? Thanks again~ Take care,

For me, if my tsh isnt between a .05-1 with the t3 and t4 in at least the mid to upper range, i can have severe low thyroid symptoms.

there is a misconception in teh world of medicine , esp with old school endocrinologists and sometimes ER doctors on what symptom is classified as "hyper" or "hypo" for my endo recently told him they cross range, and now in the med books they are noting that. i think it has to do with the individual, but also the adrenals.

you can be mildly low thyroid, and have heart papitations, daytime drowsiness, low blodo sugar swings, hypoglycemia, etc...or high thyroid, and have low blood pressure.

when i was going rhrough my thyroid symptoms at a severe level, i bought a omron blood pressure cuff, and a blood sugar meter and a shake down thermometer. giving these readings to my doctor really helped us navigate what was happening with me..and also the elytes.

i was in a critical state, so the selectrolytes or klinghardts stuff wouldnt even touch my imbalances. but again, thats just my situation.

Good luck.

Yes my son had been on iodine, DK advise, but I had stopped giving it to him

months ago, something just did not seem right.

Also read that Carnitine can be very helpful for hyper thyroid. Feeling a bit

frustrated, because DR DK, told me to stop giving him the Carnitine.

This is real extreme, also look for nailbeds for clubbing appearance.. Just the

overall issue

with electrolytes, O2, and vital signs, mood swings, being super hot- fever,

anxiety, tremors in hands < which is what I really freaked out about, seeing in

my son.

Anyway, its really important as it can cause liver failure, and all other kinds

of organ

shut down, as I mentioned already. Nausea, vomiting, wt. loss, etc...

HI! we are awaiting labs from last week but the last round in mid-July are below:

TSH 2.99 (prior to that it ws 5.79 in June but they said that was using a limit for adults so we switched to Quest Labs).

free T4 1.2 (in June it was 1.36)

Free T3 3.7 (not tested in June)Also- In June (when symtoms were not as pronounced) antithyroglobulin was normal and TPO was 8

these werent retested in July

His BP was normal in June but hasnt been tested since. Temp is always a bit low like mine even when he is saying he feels really hot.

Does this tell you anything? thanks again!

Well, i m not sure, bc i dont know what the ref ranges are.

but for lab corp tha tis a high tsh. which indicates the body needs thyroid.

This part can be tricky, bc this is an online group, and im not a doctor, but in my exp with a tsh on the higher side, low body tempt, and feeling hot at the same time indicates a possible low thyroid.

there are many ways to support the thryoid, and to not have to take meds, esp if he is borderline low.

if i had it to do all over again, i would have tried to support it naturally.

Olga posted a while back on dr. rons thyroid, which is a glandular. selenium helps convert t4 to active t3. zinc, tyrosine, iodine (can do an iodine patch test on him to see how fast he is absorbing the iodine, if its faster than 24 hours, he is low) lugols iodine is the best..

i would check his basal every am to see where he is. record it with his bp and pulse.

dr rind has a great site, and you can tell from these things if its coming from his thyroid or his adrenals.

some feel if the thyroid is low, check th eadrenals, if they are low, treat them , and the thryoid possibley could come online.

i hope this wasnt too much info!

Those lab results look like hypo thyroid you listed. But I only have Lap Corp

reference range.

Also its hard to know on the temp, it can be low from Hypo thyroid and it can

also be low with lyme too!

This is the reference range from Lab Corp:

TSH ---- 0.450-4.500

T4 free --- 0.93 - 1.60

Hi,

I'm a new member, so, just to introduce myself, I have Lyme disease and so does

my 5 year old son who is mild autistic as a result of it.

Well, I have had problems with my thyroid as a result of Lyme and I want to warn

everyone that taking iodine can actually make it worse not better. I was given

an iodine-derived medication for my heart (damaged by Lyme) and it gave me

severe hypo thyroid... but the doc said it gives an equal number of people

hyper-thyroid instead. So please be really careful with iodine!

I also want to repeat what has already been wisely said, that adrenal support,

with nutrition and avoiding adrenal-harmful foods, is a huge help for thyroid

function. My thyroid has been up and down like a yo-yo, but after six months of

taking all the adrenal supplements, it seems to be stabilising really well.

I think that getting the adrenal gland working properly is the key to

stabilising all the other hormonal functions in the body which can go haywire

with Lyme disease. (That's my own opinion not one from the doctor)

There's a very good book about helping the adrenal glands, called " Adrenal

Fatigue " by which explains easy lifestyle and diet changes that can

make a huge difference.

You may want to google foods for Hypo thyroid, I read a list but didn't keep it.

Covering many foods you may already have in your diet. Brown Rice, beans,

various whole grains,

Brazil nuts, etc..

My daughter's TSH was also .006. i don't remember the T4 number. I was told I'd have to wait 3 months to see an endocrologist by my regular DAN like doctor. When I called back and had a fit he said if I wanted he'd treat it. My daughter is non verbal. I found an ND who treated it with potassium iodide and diet.

Hiya,

The supplements I take for adrenal healing (which supports thyroid function)

are:

Vitamin E 800 IU daily (try to get mixed tocopherols not just alpha tocopherols

if at all possible)

Pantothenic acid (vit B5) 1,500mg daily (I use Jarrow which is great)

Vitamin B6 50 to 100mg daily.

buffered vitamin C, as much as your intestine can take, at least 6000mg daily

(increase by 1000mg daily til you get doarrhoea, than go bac to the dose that

was OK)

Niacin (Vit B3) 25 to 50mg daily

Magnesium 400mg daily at least (I take twice this)

Calcium 1000mg daily

Fibre (psyllium husk or whatever - this is because you will be dumping more

toxins through your bile duct and you need to trap the toxins so they are not

reabsorbed. I didn't take enough to begin with and this really matters. I need 3

teaspoons a day (half an hour before each meal)

Taking high doses of any once B vitamin can give you a deficiency in ther others

so it is important you take a B complex tablet to make sure you are not getting

deficient in any other B vits.

These are adult dosages BTW so you's have to scale them down for kids.
