Guest guest
Hi Carol, The short answer.....yes to all. Liquid is a liquid is a liquid...for the most part. Steer clear of carbonated beverages. I will let myself have a diet Dr. Pepper every now and then (It works out to only 1 a week, although I'm not really counting). and the other long-timers will tell you the science behind WHY carbonation is bad...and its good reasoning. (In my case, my taste for cola's and such has changed and I just don't like 'em anymore!) Peanut butter....small quantities. You have an excellent protein source here....but high in Fat...you'll want to be careful of that. I do find myself snacking, occasionally, on a celery stick with a little peanut butter on it. How long has it been since your surgery? You should get a tablet and start tracking what you eat....monitor your calories, fat, protein, carbs, etc..... You can get good source books in the dietary section of most book stores. You'll want to know how much of that stuff your getting, and it will be a good reference for when you approach your goal weight. Then you'll want to know how many calories you need to maintain the weight you want! Hope this helps! Jim Grimes Salinas, CA. When I read that after surgery you should drink 64oz. of water - Does that count sugar free iced tea or a chrystal light beverage? Does it count a protein beverage mixed with water? Does it count skim milk? After surgery does anyone eat peanut butter or does it stick? I am a peanut butter junkie. I eat it every morning on a carmel corn rice cake - just curious if it can be eaten ever again. Guest guest
Carol, don't count the protein as water. I do count the crystal lite or sf ice tea as my liquid but I also get in 64 oz of WATER. I don't drink skim milk. The more water you get in the more it will help you stay full and help wit the weight loss. As for peanut butter one junkie to another I stay away from the jiffy & skippy and eat the smuckers, its all natural and its reeeeeeeeally good. You take away the carmel rice cake and put it on a cracker but you won't be eating that right way. Theresa *The most beautiful things in the world can not be seen or even touched. Guest guest
I don't know if I was supposed to but I ate bites of peanut butter pretty much from the first week out. It looked to me like it would qualify as a pureed food. Now that I look back I see that it could have been trouble, but I tolerated it fine. in WA -- Need answers soon I'm sure I've seen this one posted but I can't find the answer. Guest guest
Yeah I would say it could have caused you problems. But knock on wood it didn't. But I would try peanut butter until your on semi solids that way you could have it on crackers or with something. I thought I was gonna lose pb for good afterwards. My dad always told my husband if ya want to make her happy always have pb on hand. mmmmm I think I'll go make a pb protein. I have stop buying pb because I felt I was too addicted too it again, I would make sure I would have room at the end of the evening for pb and crackers. Now I'll turn to pb protein. Guest guest
Carol R. - I've heard the ladies on here talking about eating peanut butter especially when they want to increase their protein. I think it may be a while though before you can eat it postoperatively. Every individual is different. So you don't have to mourn the loss of peanut butter, just take a vacation from it for a while. Wishing you all the best on your upcoming surgery. Jeanne in WI Age 38 Open RNY 05/21/2002 314/ /150-175 5' 8 " djgraves@... Guest guest
, I may be way off the mark by saying this but forget about the protein for a day and just get some liquids in you! Keep the water on your nite stand and sip it all night. Each time you wake up take a drink. I cant tell you how important it it. I never knew about protein post op until I was about 6 month out and I did not have the advantage that protein gives us. My blood work was fine so I did survive without the protein. But as soon as I found out it was a necessary item I started drinking it. I drink it now 3 times a day. Just please let me know you are getting lots of fluids in. You must force yourself to drink. I was the same way. I did not want to eat or drink. Felt like poop. I did not force myself and I ended in the hospital. Yes they take a blood test to tell just how dehydrated you are. I woke up in the middle of the night after feeling badly for a few days. I just knew I was very sick and that I had to go to the hospital immediately. It was a good thing that I did. I WOKE EVERYONE UP. I CALLED my surgeon at 3 AM and told him I was going to hospital. He called instructios ahead and saw me there at 7. Please by tomorrow morning let me know you have had as much water in as you can handle. Im worried about you! Hugs, in Pa.
Guest guest
Since I consider Peanut Butter a necessary food group, I tried it a few days after surgery. I was sipping Crystal Light, and eating PB off a spoon very slowly. My dh laughed at me, said my eyes were rolling back in my head. No problem, just had to take it real slooooow! Now I have PB on crackers, yummmm! Can't tolerate milk of any kind, causes dumping. But cheese is OK. Peggy Ann > > > > After surgery does anyone eat peanut butter or does it stick? Guest guest
That's interesting that you can handle cheese but not milk. I just switched to adding milk in my drinks because I am only getting down three instead of 5 per day. The doctor said to change to milk. Maybe that is part of my problem. I stuck my finger in the PB today and it was heavenly in California Open RNY - 03/29/02 272.5/254 - as of 04/10/02 Re: Need answers soon Since I consider Peanut Butter a necessary food group, I tried it a few days after surgery. Guest guest
You are too funny, but you're right, I have heard it has a lot of sugar. I think I will stay away from milk. Right now I'm drinking something called Myoplex. I bought it for the 20g of protein but just saw that it has 16g of sugar. I think I'm at a point of not wanting anything to eat or drink. I'm drinking this because I should, but it tastes awful to me. These things cost $3.00 each! Guest guest
Add PB, delete milk. If you had killer gas, that mighta been milk. If I get into some accidentally, I'm on the floor screaming for 5 hours. milk = sugar (lactose) and cheese does not have it! So, cheese, ctg cheese, sour cream, crm cheese--those are all safe. Guest guest
, thank you for sharing about your experience and your concern for me. I'm sorry you had to go through that, but it helps to know I'm not the first. I feel very bad that I have taken up so much space here today. I hope no one has kept quiet about something going on with them because of me. I know everyone cares, thank God!, but it's weird being on this side of the coin. I was thinking today that maybe if I could find another way for a while I would be able to get back to protein soon. I use to love it. I promise I will continue to sip water all night. I have gotten another 8 ozs. down this afternoon and still sipping.
