Hi,

I am just wondering if there are any other mothers here who, like me, had

(undiagnosed) Lyme disease before getting pregnant, and transmitted it to their

baby while pregnant?

Many of us did this, including myself.

Yup. Me too. It was me getting sick that helped me finally unravel my son's issues. To: BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism From: veronica_mai_hughes@...Date: Wed, 19 Oct 2011 16:23:33 +0000Subject: Mothers with Lyme disease who infected child while pregnant?

Don't blame yourself, this is very common. My wife went years being told by multiple doctors that nothing was wrong with her and she was healthy. She had every test in the book done (including a HIV test). The only thing they did was tell her she was depressed and they gave her antidepressants.

She had multiple miscarraces before she finally got pregnant. When she asked the doctor if there might be something causing the miscarrages since she had major joint pain and she was sick all the time, the doctor said that her body just wasn't ready to have a baby yet.

It's not your fault, it's the uneducated doctors who ignore the facts.

Good luck,

Mason

I didn't realise there would be so many of us.

I think I've mostly got over the guilt, but I feel so much sadness that I cannot

have another baby - because I'm still ill, and because the next baby would be

autistic and ill too. And I feel so angry to think that if only one, just one of

the incompetent doctors I have been to over the years had diagnosed and treated

me, my son could have been spared all that he has suffered.

My experience was kind of the opposite of Kate H - my determination to help my

son was what finally led me to figure out what was also wrong with me.

If only Lyme disease were included in the illnesses they screen for in pregnant

women. They check for rubella, toxoplasmosis and all the other illnesses that

can harm the baby. I wonder if one of the Lyme disease associations could start

a campaign for that?

I was treated with 6 wks. IV- rocephin. I had my 2 boys tested multiple times, but came back inconclusive. My Autistic son was 5 before we did a tonsilectomy, and then they pcr'd his tonsils, and that came back positive. I demanded he go on iV. (they didn't want to believe he had it. for some stupid reason.) First dose of IV- he started talking, better eye contact. After 6 weeks his Spec. Ed teachers said he didn't look that autistic. He is now 13, and has chronic lyme. We are able to give him anti-biotics every now and then. I am

sure I had lyme when I was pregnant with him. Sometimes I wonder if we should treat him with IV again, although I know there would be no doctor that would agree to that. AmyTo: borreliamultipleinfectionsandautism Sent: Wednesday, October 19, 2011

Hi Amy,

Are you in the UK? Have you been to the breakspear Hospital? They treat chronic

Lyme with IV and oral antibiotics.

Or there's ILADS.org which can help with doctor recommendations all over the

place.

I've been on oral antibiotics for a year for my chronic lyme and I'm still not

very convincd I can get rid of it. I do wonder if just boosting the immune

system to keep it in check works better.

We gave my son stuff called immunozyme for a year before starting antibiotics

and he made his greatest improvements in that period.

I wish all the best for your son. I've had Lyme for 28 years now and had some

really good periods even without any treatment at all. The most important things

of all are love and rest.

No- I don't live in the UK. I live near Washington, D.C. I"ll have to look into the immunozyme. Sometime I have learned through all of this is to keep on researching, and looking for new ways to help us. Good luck with you guys! Yes- I really need more rest. I do have a lot of love in my life though. So that is good. :)Amy To:

Yes, I also passed it to my 1st daughter, we are now both in treatment.

My last child, whom I only breastfed for her first 4 days, then switched to 100%

to formula (not to do with Lyme, still did not know)

By all accounts seems totally healthy and Lyme free.

Not sure who you were asking, but yes, I was sick when pregnant. As in, ill, and

also sick as in vomited up to 20 times a day.

I had weird symptoms too like passing out often in month 5, freaking crazy

migraines, my whole body itching till I thought I was going mad... lots of

stuff.

I'm interested in the breastfeeding thing, as I often wondered if it was the

breastfeeding that actually transmitted the infeciton. I had really awful

mastitis and stopped breastfeeding after 3 weeks. I wish I had stopped sooner.

The milk was repulsive and yellow and I kept telling the doctors that but they

refused to believe me, and looked at me like I must be a devil worshipper when I

suggested maybe it might be better to stop breastfeeding.

The pregnancy with the child who got Lyme was extremely stressful, and I was

wildly hormonal during parts of it.

The pregnancy after w/ my other daughter, whom I only BF for 4 days, who is now

going to turn 5 yrs. old, and is by all accounts healthy and NT,

I was very ill, severe, severe migraines, crazy fatigue, trouble gaining weight

at the end, but my life circumstances were better (we had moved, etc.) and I

felt less stress overall inside, alibet suffering with migraines, fatigue, and

after she was born (full term) I really fell apart-

But called it everything else in my life, had no clue about Lyme until this

year-

positive Igenex PCR blood, and positive Igenex Bartonella.

By the way, this doesn't mean I don't have a deep seated fear my youngest dd is

not in the free and clear- I've never had her tested, as we don't have any

symptoms,

and our LLMD says if there are no symptoms, he does not treat.

But she will never get another vax in case of setting off, etc.

Hi!

That makes me angry. Doctors know certain infections go into mothers breast milk

and are transmitted to the baby, but breast feeding has become one of the sacred

cows of western medicine and is always advocated, even when doctors know there

are circumstances that could make it dangerous.

The CDC publishes warnings about transmission of the following in breat milk:

HIV, cytomegalovirus, hepatitis B and C, Human T cell leukaemia virus, epstein

barr, human papilloma virus

Here's a page listing known bacterial infections from breast milk that made

babies ill and caused some deaths:

http://www.latrobe.edu.au/microbiology/table5.html

candida albicans is another infection I definitely gave my son by breastfeeding,

as well as possibly Lyme spirochetes.

At the latest ILADS conference in Toronto Dr. Ray presented on

pregnancy and tick borne diseases. He said it has been proven that some babies

avoid getting gestational lyme during pregnancy but then catch it from the

mother through breast feeding.

http://www.ilads.org/media/videos/videos_jones.php

(This is just the first part, you have to register for the live streaming to see

the full presentation where he goes into more detail)
