Guest guest
Hi ,  my now 5yr old has had three surgeries at Hopkins most recently this past July. I absolutely love them.I live in Massachusetts but I take her there for her care. She is treated by neurosurgeon Carson Sr and she had general peds surg Dylan She is also treated there in there GI clinic by Dr Carla Au Yeung for check ups and I love them!!.I have taken her her many places and I must say that they have been the best overall. The bedside manner of the nurses and staff is excellent as well as with the surgeons and their staff. If I call with a concern they make every effort to rectify the situation in a timely manner and help me get to the bottom of the matter even being miles away. They speak with my daughters doctors here and always do whatever is necessary to help. They accommodate us and make sure that the total care of both patient and family is taken care of.I'm not sure if this helps you and if you have more specific questions I would be more than happy to answer them.I know how difficult this choice can be and if I may do anything to ease that process I am wiling. Hope this was helpful and good luck.I wish you the best!                                      Corinn Subject: Hopkins or Cleveland Clinic surgery experience? Guest guest
Thanks. Did your daughter have successful TC surgery with Dr. Carson? Have you heard of Dr. Jallo and who is better with TC surgery for adults? Guest guest
I've had two releases by Dr. Jallo and I absolutely love him. He was so good to me considering I live 8 hours away. Scheduled my pre op visit a day or two b/f my surgery date...did much of the consulting over the phone after I sent him my films. He will still answer my emails within a day of when I send them. my 1st surgery was just a release and he had to deal with a failed surgery by another surgeon that never should have operated on me. my 2nd was a release and he dealt with my tarlov cyst. Hopkins was fabulous! The nursing staff was excellent! Hardly any pain now except for a neuropathy in my right leg that is a constant issue, but nothing like b/f the surgery. I was originally referred to Dr. Carson, but when I called, he wasn't taking any patients. I think that was during the time when he was writing his book or working on the made for TV movie about his life... Good luck with your decision! Guest guest
Thanks , Wow there is a movie about Carson! Is he suppose to be better then? Did I understand you that you had surgery before you ever saw Jallo? Did you retether after the surgery with Jallo? Was it due to scar tissue formation. I would appreciate if you could explain what he did. Does he do a sacral or lumbar laminectomy or by scope. How does he close the dura? Duraplasty or gelfoam, etc? Sorry for so many questions. How big was your Tarlov cyst, I also have a very small one, but I didn't think that caused any problems. Why did he think you didn't need surgery to begin with. Does he recommend just living with TC and not doing surgery? Again thank you for your help with this. > > > > > > From: stvtm <stvtm@> > > Subject: Hopkins or Cleveland Clinic surgery experience? > > To: tetheredspinalcord > > Date: Saturday, February 5, 2011, 4:21 PM > > > > > > Â > > > > > > > > I would appreciate hearing from anyone that had surgery at either Hopkins or Cleveland Clinic. Guest guest
Pretty sure it was called " Gifted Hands-The Dr. Ben Carson Story " . I was thrilled to hear him speak at a local college last year. He was fabulous! He has a foundation that he started and all the info is on his website...he donates money for disadvantaged schools to build libraries. Guest guest
My grandson was born with lipomyelomeningocele ped.doctor saw a tag on his lower spine. Next day he was rushed down to Children's hosp in Phila. for MRI in which they discovered the tethered cord, was operated on at age of 4months. After 4yrs. he started showing signs of back ache my daughter took him to Hopkins because she did not like the surgeon who operated on him. He had retethered and when Dr. Jallo spoke to my daughter after his surgery Dr. Jallo said that it was longer then expected because his dora was left open from last surgery. Then again after 6months he had retethered again. Dr. Jallo had said my grandson was this only patient that retethered so quickly. It had been one year since his last operation. Hope this helps.  God Bless    Hopkins or Cleveland Clinic surgery experience? > > To: tetheredspinalcord > > Date: Saturday, February 5, 2011, 4:21 PM > > > > > >  > > > > > > > > I would appreciate hearing from anyone that had surgery at either Hopkins or Cleveland Clinic. Guest guest
Hi , My daughter had successful surgery with Dr. Carson but I have met Dr. jallo as well anmd he has assisted with my daughter's case because it is VERY rare. She has had 3 untethering surgeries all within a yaer of the last. They have told me they have never seen someone rethether so many times so quickly and suffer nerve damage but they are the only ones who have helped thus far.Dr. Jallo is just as excellent as Dr. carson. Despite the extensive damage and the amount of surgeries she has had she looks completely normal and functions normally thanks to their help so I put all trust in them!!   Subject: Re: Hopkins or Cleveland Clinic surgery experience?
