Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I went in last Thursday to see Dr. Frim for MRI/TC update. He also got me in to see his associate, a neurologist, Dr. .Dr. took a really long time examining me. His conclusions- I have some deficiency, MS OR some type of disorder that is not allowing my nerves to conduct (I don't remember the name) I am scheduled for an MRI of brain and neck, as well as an EMG. I also had some blood work done to make sure everything is okay (had it done before surgery). My spinal cord seems to be moving, that is the good news! Anyone have any thoughts? Have you had this testing? Basically I am having leg/arm/hand numbness and coordination issues. Thanks!
Guest guest
Hi , I'm so glad you have someone that is looking into things for you and hope you get answers. What type of coordination problems and exam issues did the neurologist pick up, were they different from before surgery? So glad to hear about the movement of cord, did you have the supine and prone MRI (flip flop) that showed movement of your cord or could they tell with just the standard LS MRI. MS is something I have also wondered about and have considered a spinal tap to definitely rule out, but afraid to do with the TC. Apparently, the symptoms can be really similar. Not familiar with the names of other conduction disorders though. I hope they were able to schedule you for the tests soon. > > Hi Everyone, > I went in last Thursday to see Dr. Frim for MRI/TC update. Guest guest
They did the flip flop MRI, and it looks like the cord is moving.Well I can't stand on one leg, I have noticed it takes me longer and longer to get dressed because I actually have to sit down when I put anything on.Very hard for me to follow a finger etc. They were not there before the surgery, as far as I know of. The only thing that was there was arm numbness and constant knots EVERYWHERE. I have knots literally from the top of my head to my toes. And they don't go away, I go for massage 1-2 times a week, and nothing works.I am starting to wonder if the only thing the cord caused was pain and bladder issues... maybe the numbness and the " electrical " pain was always something else. I have everything scheduled for the next few weeks, so I will know in about 3 weeks what is going on (hopefully). The conduction disorders have " funny " names... it's a bunch of letters.. I have tried to Google, no luck! They have something to go with lack of myelin, so nerves don't conduct. Getting sick and tired of dealing with this crap! Guest guest
Hi , Im glad you are getting that checked out. My Neuro thought I had MS too because of reflex/coordination/weakness issues. My scans checked out ok, showed some plaques but he said they were normal plaques (I didnt think there were normal plaques but whatever) I didnt have the numbness you described in my hands but I did have almost a CP type of motor movement. I would go to reach for something and my hand wouldnt respond, then it would but in a very strange jerky movement and I was constantly dropping whatever I picked up, couldnt open things etc. My dominant hand was actually weaker than my other one. My family doc wanted me to see a geneticist as she thought I had some strange enzyme deficiency or something. So basically it all continued as (I had no insurance to see more specialists for testing) and we had to just chalk it up to a messed up spinal cord BUT after having a severe reaction to my meds and being forced to stop all of them, all of that disappeared. I was very very Thankful as I was afraid I was headed for a nursing home.  I hope they figure out what is going on with you and I hope it is as easy as that (although living in constant pain is surely not easy) Subject: Arm issues- Neurologists Opinion To: " Tetheredspinalcord " <tetheredspinalcord > Date: Monday, February 21, 2011, 11:01 AM  Hi Everyone, I went in last Thursday to see Dr. Frim for MRI/TC update. Guest guest
, I just had a thought, maybe not helpful at all but just in case, I wondered if spinal fluid was sent for lab analysis during your surgery. You would think if they are opening up your dura they would send a sample of spinal fluid for testing, perhaps you could get your medical records or ask your Dr. The presence of oligoclonal bands is suggestive of MS. Perhaps the analysis would be helpful in ruling something else in or out too. Also, I can't stand on one leg either, but I thought that goes along with weakness from the TC, and I imagine that would take a while to recover after surgery. > > > > > > Hi Everyone, > > > I went in last Thursday to see Dr. Frim for MRI/TC update. Guest guest
I wonder whats up with all the head to toe knots? By knots do you mean spasming? or hard nodules in your muscles? Isnt that suggestive of Fibromyalgia? Are you lacking in Magnesium? I supplement magnesium to help my spasming (and my bowels). I was on another list with a lady that had some wierd neuro muscle thing going on and her muscles would actually spasm so hard that it looked like a snake moving under her skin. It was(is) absolutely horrible (she posted a video for us). I forget what its called but I surely hope that isnt what you are talking about with the knots.
