Guest guest
Wow..didnt realize they were using that for pain management. The only thing I know about it is they use it in Vets offices during surgery on animals. My daughter used to be a vet tech and she almost got mugged one night walking one of the dogs because the kid was trying to rob her of the ketamine. It is a widely abused street drug now referred to as Special K (I think) Im sure on the dose your doc prescribed wouldnt have the same effect but I have seen videos of people abusing ketamine and it is SCARY SCARY stuff! course who knows what all else they are doing too but if you watch several of the videos you see a pattern of being completely out of control. No Thanks! ________________________________ To: tetheredspinalcord Sent: Thu, April 7, 2011 1:02:24 AM Subject: Ketamine  I tapered off Tramadol 50mg and start Ketamine 12.5mg capsules on Monday. The Dr. wants me to increase dosage every 3 days til I read 3 pills a day. That's if I need it. If I don't, he doesn't want me taking more. He seemed concerned about nightmares but I've read at such a low dose that isn't really an issue. Has anyone taken Ketamine and how did it go? Guest guest
Yep, I definately need a break from forum land. No one was leaning toward the addiction stereotype. No one was accusing anyone here of abusing or ever being in danger of abusing. No one was telling anyone that they shouldnt medicate for their pain. I understand that for people with pain like ours it is difficult to abuse because the damn drugs dont even work for the pain. My adult son was addicted to Vicodin, lots of people are, for me to take vicodin I might as well eat a tic tac, it does nothing. The point I was trying to make is that everything you put in your body has a reaction. It helps or doesnt help, its side effects etc are caused from a change in the chemistry of your body. Look at the extrapyramidal side effects, look at someone abusing ketamine, see if those are effects you are willing to chance. Just because you dont abuse it doesnt mean those chemical changes arent happening in your body on a smaller scale and perhaps if you have decreased liver or kidney function couldnt build up as the neurontin did for me. If you are willing to take the chance, super, go for it. Just realize it is a choice. Just realize that the docs dont know shit about the drugs except what the drug reps tell them. Realize that they will tell you all day long that there are no side effects you need to worry about. Realize that those drugs are not fixing anything. My body has never tolerated the drugs, any of them so I had to learn to deal with the pain. I understand severe pain, I live with it everyday. It sucks. It has had me at the point of suicide. But focusing on it and every little discomfort only makes it worse. I dont care how much pain you are in, set the room on fire and you dont feel it. You get out of the room. If your focus is on pain and disability then you will experience that. Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional. ________________________________ To: tetheredspinalcord Sent: Mon, April 11, 2011 9:06:53 AM Subject: Re: Ketamine  I hear that they also have it in a cream. I am actually planning on asking about it for my butt cheek pain I don't know about the pump. I was speaking with my doctor and she seemed appalled at that suggestion. She said everything known to man should be exhausted when trying the pump. I did a quick read on it and I noticed a lot of people get this as a compounded cream with Neurontin etc, for things like foot surgery. I don't think it's that unreasonable to use. And I do agree- as long as you don't abuse it,  don't see why this is worse than anything else. The kids are doing everything these days, we would be out of options if we tried to find something " non addicting " . Once again we are leaning to the addiction stereotype. It's very discouraging to read. Good luck to you and please let me know how it works for you. I may be doing something else this week, morphine not doing that great of a job. Subject: Ketamine To: tetheredspinalcord Date: Friday, April 8, 2011, 1:30 PM  , I think he's running out of options because nothing seems to work on me, and he's trying anything he can before turning to opiates. The meds either do nothing or the side effects are worse than the pain. I've read pretty extensively on Ketamine and it's seems like the nightmares, etc., happen at a much higher dose that I'll be taking. And I think a lot of us would agree, when you need meds you don't abuse them. It's the people who are just out to get high that do the abusing. I know for myself that I hate having to take them in the first place. The last thing I want is a high, I just want to be as pain-free as possible. This'll be my 9th try at finding relief and I'm getting discouraged. >Wow..didnt realize they were using that for pain management. Guest guest
That is neuropathic pain. ________________________________ To: tetheredspinalcord Sent: Mon, April 11, 2011 10:33:21 AM Subject: Re: Ketamine  Pain doc refuses to implant anything, last time I asked her about it she said no way because it only treats neuropathic pain well. I do have that but it's managed by Neurontin for the most part. This pain is more severe burning and really bad aching. Almost like if you were to constantly hit a bruise. > > > Subject: Ketamine > To: tetheredspinalcord > Date: Friday, April 8, 2011, 1:30 PM > > > > , > > I think he's running out of options because nothing seems to work on me, > and > > he's trying anything he can before turning to opiates.
