The meds either do nothing or the side effects are worse than the pain. I've read pretty extensively on Ketamine and it's seems like the nightmares, etc., happen at a much higher dose that I'll be taking. And I think a lot of us would agree, when you need meds you don't abuse them. It's the people who are just out to get high that do the abusing. I know for myself that I hate having to take them in the first place. The last thing I want is a high, I just want to be as pain-free as possible. This'll be my 9th try at finding relief and I'm getting discouraged. >Wow..didnt realize they were using that for pain management. Guest guest
Have you considered an intrathecal pump? Just an idea. Guest guest
I hear that they also have it in a cream. I am actually planning on asking about it for my butt cheek pain I don't know about the pump. I was speaking with my doctor and she seemed appalled at that suggestion. She said everything known to man should be exhausted when trying the pump. I did a quick read on it and I noticed a lot of people get this as a compounded cream with Neurontin etc, for things like foot surgery. I don't think it's that unreasonable to use. And I do agree- as long as you don't abuse it,  don't see why this is worse than anything else. The kids are doing everything these days, we would be out of options if we tried to find something " non addicting " . Once again we are leaning to the addiction stereotype. It's very discouraging to read. Good luck to you and please let me know how it works for you. I may be doing something else this week, morphine not doing that great of a job. Subject: Ketamine To: tetheredspinalcord Date: Friday, April 8, 2011, 1:30 PM  , I think he's running out of options because nothing seems to work on me, and he's trying anything he can before turning to opiates. Guest guest
, Another good option is the spinal cord stimulator. My nsg suggested it for me at one point. Guest guest
Pain doc refuses to implant anything, last time I asked her about it she said no way because it only treats neuropathic pain well. I do have that but it's managed by Neurontin for the most part. This pain is more severe burning and really bad aching. Almost like if you were to constantly hit a bruise. > > > Subject: Ketamine > To: tetheredspinalcord > Date: Friday, April 8, 2011, 1:30 PM > > > > , > > I think he's running out of options because nothing seems to work on me, > and > > he's trying anything he can before turning to opiates. Guest guest
, The pain in my legs is 100% neuropathic. What does it feel like? Burning. Period. No tingling, buzzing, shocks, etc. Those types of pain can also be caused by neuropathy, but everyone experiences neuropathic pain differently. But, burning can definitely (and is common) be neuropathic pain. Jenn On Mon, Apr 11, 2011 at 12:54 PM, Dybowski wrote: > > > Wait, so I somehow have neuropathic pain all over my body now? Guest guest
Yep - completely numb. I could sit on an electric heater and I wouldn't feel it. Have lots of other areas like this. Along with other strange sensations and pain areas, I have the sensation that something is trying to push through my back - very low and to the left of my spine. When it's at its worst, the area swells. Guest guest
Sorry it's taken me so long to respond! , I haven't heard of the spray but the pills are doing nothing so far. And no nightmares, just a hungover feeling when I wake up. Of course, I've only been on them a week, so we'll see. Upping the dose on Monday per Dr's orders. >I wasn't going to write because I wasn't sure if you would like a second hand >opinion. My friend who is paralyzed after a car accident developed Complex >Regional Pain Syndrome, and after failing every medication he started on >Ketamine in spray form. They built up his dosage over a period of 2 weeks I >think, and he has stayed on it ever since. I think he has been on it for 9 >months now, I haven't heard anything bad about it from him, besides some >nightmares. I asked about the cream and the Dr. didn't seem too enthused. Probably because it wouldn't be absorbed deeply enough to help. >I hear that they also have it in a cream. Kathy, I asked but the Dr. wasn't too keen on surgery. Neither and I or I would have the detether surgery. >Have you considered an intrathecal pump? Just an idea. Jenn, Isn't that also surgery? Or more like a TENS unit? >Another good option is the spinal cord stimulator. My nsg suggested it for me at >one point. e, Yes. Mine is numb.
