Guest guest
Hello Shelia, and welcome! You could get a hundred different answers to your questions, but here is my take: How best to contribute: Ask questions when you have them; give answers when you can; be willing to share and be open - we are all in the same boat (learning as we go) How to get the most out of the group: Take to heart what is useful and leave what is not. ACT is not one-size-fits-all in its application; what works for one does not necessarily work for another. Be tolerant of differing viewpoints and beliefs. I would also suggest you read Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Life by and The Happiness Trap by Russ - for starters (if you haven't already) - and practice the exercises. Both authors, along with other ACT professionals, jump in with insightful comments and answers to questions every so often, which is a real treasure. and Forsyth have also written some excellent ACT books (check Amazon.com) and participate in the forum from time to time
Guest guest
Well, hello and welcome. My only contribution by way of answering point 2) of your query below is to suggest that you ignore all posts by me.I'm given to posting stuff quite extraneous to ACT, such as this:http://www.buzzfeed.com/peggy/40-cat-hatsYou have been warned!Regards,Detlef>> Hello> > I joined the group a month or so ago and have been reading the digests every so often. Guest guest
Hi and welcome. Heck if I know, but time spent here is more or less like time spent everywhere else in your life I suppose, although I need to be much more careful here because it's typing on a page and I've created so much wreckage imagining I'm not a human being speaking to you, here, as a human being. I forget that what I care about you may not give a hoot about, I forget this is not a personal journal or a dumping ground of free association or whatever feels good to put on this blank space (usually that's something about being right and/or looking to feel relief). At least I hope that's not all it is. In the same way, I used to imagine I was driving a car that was merely an extension of me, driving only on my private road, with no-one else out there really concerned about how I was driving. I was that checked out. And lets just say the result of that approach was not a good one. Turns out my behavior, my choices affect others and me. Go figure. So thanks for asking. A very good question! How do you want this to be for yourself and others? Hopefully intending for a compassionate, positive (not like happy, happy joy joy), honest, flexible, creative, safe space where we can share some about this practice and process of ACT. Pay attention to what works and what doesn't. > > Hello > > I joined the group a month or so ago and have been reading the digests every so often. Guest guest
P.S. Fun is welcome too. :-) I tend toward being a rather serious sort. Hope you enjoy this ACT journey. If you're truly stumped, just start with whatever processes and experience you're looking at today. > > > > Hello > > > > I joined the group a month or so ago and have been reading the digests every so often. Guest guest
Hi Shelia What did you think of the replies and comments we offered to your initial post? Hope they were helpful. Hope to hear from you again! Helena Hello I joined the group a month or so ago and have been reading the digests every so often. I am hoping to learn more about ACT and how to develop the skills and mind set that will support the changes I want to make. I was wondering if anyone can give me some tips about 1) how best to contribute, and 2) how to get the most out of the group. Sheila
