Guest guest
Hi-- it wasn't clear from your post whether your daughter is using a new catheter each time or not. When my son was instructed to begin daily cathing again at the age of four (we cathed at infancy for a year and a half), we were told to wash the catheters and reuse them. After at least six years of almost continuous treatment for infections ,we finally begged the doctor for a scrip to use a sterile catheter each time. Why they don't do this right off the bat is a wonder, because I've never heard or met anyone who ha successfully done the 'recycling' of catheters and not risked infecitons. Of course, insurance companies will balk. That, along with a heavy, heavy dose of powerful antibiotics, took care of the problem, and he has not had a UTI in five years. However, his urine/bladder will always have a high level of bacteria in it. He is not treated for this " low-level " infection unless he is in dire straits, in major pain, etc. he also has become resistant to a couple of antibiotics so they don't WANT to treat him. Hope this helps, Yleana
