Guest guest
Allie, I am sure I missed somehow in your posts but how did you make the connection between the thyroid and taking the tonsils out? My son had the tonsillectomy done 4.5 months ago and we have never tested his thyoid levels, neither this test was ever suggested by our doctor! My son is super thin, only 36-37 pounds, although he is 6.5 years old and despite all my attempts to fatten him up (he is on low oxalates, sugar free diet, but I give him plenty of healthy food and he has good apetite), do you think thyroid might play a role in his inability to gain weight? Thank you for bringing it up, I will ask our doctor on my next phone consult. Guest guest
Krassi It's just surg at the throat, X-rays near the thyroid We really need to protect this tiny " butterfly shaped gland " It's responsible for so many things in our body Most Dr's are not aware that the thyroid levels should be checked after surgery. Your son sounds like mine, very thin. I wonder if he can have Avocado's, coconut oil or coconut water? But if he's healthily & growing - not to worry As his body heals, he can grow more. My husband was trying to abate my fears about our son's growth & told me he was still growing in college! So there is so much hope in healing. Hope your son rests & sleeps well too, important for healing. Guest guest
Allie, Just wondering - have you seen any positives/negatives after the tonsillectomy? We did tonsillectomy as per Dr. K recommendation, but the first 3 months or so after the surgery were way worse with OCD behavours than ever. Now finally the OCD and anxieties are getting again managable, but still not better than before the surgery. As per Dr. K this is normal and the positives are supposed to come 6-9 months after the tonsillectomy. I requested biopsy of the tonsils and adenoids when they took them out and indeed they were severely affected with all kinds of known and unknown bacteria, so at least this was good proof that we did the right thing, however I am still anxious to see any positives with behaviour or speech. He is sleeping much better (for 11-12 hours non-stop during the night), so this is the only area so far we have seen improvement. Thank you for the suggestions for the avocado and coconut oil, however although my son eats well he eats only certain foods and these are ones of the foods he completely refuses to try. Guest guest
What about making a hot cereal or GF toast with coconut oil added to it. If you use a good orgainic brand, he will not notice it at all. Make dips or small slices of avocado inside his favorite sandwiches? Salads? They also sell coconut yogurt in many flavors or you can buy plain and add your own fruits. We were told as well from DR K. to have tonsils removed. I have not seen lots of pos. from the tonsils yet. Decreased OCD. But dealing with this thyroid issue, has set so much back as well. My son has lost so much strength and energy its hard to know yet. I was told 3-4 months post tonsil surge we would see the great difference. Which has already past, But like I mentioned this more serious issue with the thyroid, that it is holding on to, loads of iodine. I was told to give our son, now having to drain it out with meds because of the hyperthyroidism. His thyroid levels are within normal ranges now, but still must stay on a anti thyroid med for months, and do lab work every two weeks to retest. Our medical bills have multiplied just from using Tri Quest iodine! And cannot do any lyme treatments still because of this crisis.
