I still do that though, especially when I drink lots of water/coffee/tea during the day and early evening. Eunice

Guest guest
I'm type2. I've been suffering for several weeks with high bg readings (500+). I've been working with my doctor for a couple of weeks to bring it down, but progress has been slow. Readings are still in the 400's. My question is: what are the symptoms of this? I'm suffering mainly from fatigue and find it difficult to think and move. Is this a common symptom for this condition? Hi, Phil... Yes! Most definitely, that is a common symptom of very high blood sugar... when mine was that high, a few months ago, all I wanted to do was sleep. Is there a quicker way to bring it down? I'm taking avandia, glucophageXT(2) and Lantus(14iu). How long has your blood sugar been as high as that? And what type of diet does your doctor suggest along with the meds? A low carb way of eating is what helped me to bring my very high blood sugars down -- it had been 350 to 500, and even higher. I'm not saying low carb is the only way, but it's the only thing that has helped me. Sandy H.

Chronic fatigue was the norm for me. What kind of diet are you following? To lower your blood glucose you will need to lower your intake of carbohydrates. How much really depends on the individual, but we will probably be able to suggest some ways to lower them that might be helpful. I'm betting that once you get your glucose under control you'll feel a LOT better. How long since your diagnosis? Is weight an issue for you? Are you able to exercise? Guest guest
My doctor prescribed Amaryl and I think it has been working great. It works primarily by increasing insulin secretion and lowering blood glucose concentration. Rick, At first, Amaryl worked very well for me too, and all of a sudden, it quit working, so my doctor doubled the dose. Still, it didn't work, so he put me on Glucovance, which also didn't do a thing for me except give me awful headaches. That was when I threw the meds in the trash, and out of desperation, started a low carb way of eating. I've gotten my blood sugar down without the aid of meds, and I'm really glad about that. Guest guest
> My question is: what are the symptoms of this? Hi Phil I suffered from headaches and fatigue... although I didn't realize it until after I got my BGs down and then realized how crappy I had been feeling. The classic symptoms of high BGs for Type 2 are: fatigue nausea frequent urination excessive thirst weight loss blurred vision frequent infections and slow healing of wounds or sores blood pressure consistently at or above 140/90 HDL cholesterol less than 35 mg/dL or triglycerides greater than 250 mg/dL a history of abnormal glucose tolerance test results I've heard a lot of people say that didn't have any symptoms. I took myself off the meds, and I'm afraid I'm going to have a pull with my doctor about it when I go in for tests. I told him over and over that I wanted off the meds, and he'd say, " We'll see how you do on the meds.... I'll take you off them if you, first, lower your blood sugar. " Well, that wasn't what I wanted to do, and it finally dawned on me that it's my body, and I have to do what I think is right for it. Thankfully, it's been the right decision for me. Sandy H. Guest guest
Hi Rick, When I was first diagnosed my BG was over 600. I think that was mostly due to the fact that I had surgery a month before and had glucose pumped into me. I was dying of thirst, my vision was bad, sometimes I felt so sick that I just had to lay down. I stayed exhausted. I honestly believed that all the symptoms were due to my having a hysterectomy since I had not totally recovered from it. A year later, during the holidays, I ate like everyone else and my BG shot up over 600. I had all the same symptoms again plus I developed neuropathy. I couldn't get it to go down so I went to the doctor in either January or February. It was in the 300s by March and under 200 by May. Now my average is 133. I got it down with Starlix and a strict diet. Debbie Symptoms of high bg's > I'm type2. I've been suffering for several weeks with high bg > readings (500+). Guest guest
When I was first diagnosed my BG was over 600. Mine was once, Debbie... that was the catalyst that forced me to try the low carb diet. I remember vividly that my hubby and I had plans to go out to dinner, and I checked my blood sugar before we left... it was over 600! It was off the meter. We changed our plans and went to someplace that had a seafood buffet. I ate several pieces of fish and salad, and my blood sugar dropped, so I decided that low carb was the way to go. That was two or three months ago.... Sandy
Guest guest
Have you ever tested and your meter just register the word HI? I know my meter will go up to 635 becuase thats the highest reading I have ever gotten on it. I use the new Freestyle. I just wonder how high it has to get for it to register 'HI' Debbie RE: Symptoms of high bg's > > > When I was first diagnosed my BG was over 600. > > Mine was once, Debbie... that was the catalyst that forced me to try the > low carb diet. Guest guest
I can't imagine what it would be like to go as low as 20. Mine has never gotten under 88. Guest guest
I thought the weight loss happens when you're body starts breaking down your fat/muscle for energy. I thought that it typically happens more in type 1 since the onset is more sudden and typically there is no insulin production. I was 4'11 " and around 80 pounds the year I was diagnosed. I dropped down to 73 pounds in about 2 months before getting diagnosed. I was in severe ketoacidosis. That can be it...but before I was diagnosed I lost 30 pounds over about a year's time, despite eating all the time. The thing is, my sugar was so high it was spilling over into the urine, so all those calories were going out of my system. What convinced me I had diabetes before I even went to see the doctor, though, was three months of a vaginal infection that would not heal no matter what medication the doctor put me on. Guest guest
Actually it was 86! I looked at the wrong thing (and I had pizza). This a.m. 112. I'm definately getting better daily #'s and, even when I eat bad stuff. I love apple bites (with dough and sugar on top) and have eaten quite a few in the past couple of days but no problems with reading and no extra exercise. I can't wait to see what my next A1C is at! I'm averaging about 132 on my 30 day meter and that seems to have been the reading for the past 3-4 months overall. I still have a spike now and then but not often. I hope I don't go through that monthly 150-170 cycle again! Ann PS I test in the a.m. and the p.m. that's it. Even if I eat something different or whatever. Figure the overall daily average is the important thing. > > BSG 92 tonite - > > Hi Ann, > Great number. Actually I joke but I never want to loose weight with diabetes because it would mean that I was very sick..sus -----Original Message----- From: Barber weight loss is a classic symptoms of high BGs for Type II???
