Can it be taken together with MB12? Dr has prescribed Leocovor (folinic acid) to my 5yr old ASD son. I was reading about this folinic acid in web and I came across this article from tacanow web site. This section is from Dr Neubrander's presentation (on Methyl-B12 treatments) from Autism One conference in 2005. --quote Folinic acid should be added after the first 5-week clinical trial but not at the same time as Methyl-B12. It should be added alone and its dose should start low and then be incrementally increased to see how it is tolerated. From my research, approximately 20% of children become hyper and/or cannot sleep when folinic acid is added. --unquote Now I am wondering, can we give this medication at the same time with other MB12? Whoever is already on this medication, are you following any specific times for this? Also any sleep issues if taken in the night? 3 years ago, when we started the Bio Med treatment for my son, this MB12 shots was one of the protocol we did. The MB12 shot had folinic acid and NAC as well. My son had severe sleep issues with this combo. Eventually we had to take him out of this protocol. Now my son is on Neurobiologix stabilizer cream (MB12 + folinic acid and other stuff) with no issues. So I am little bit scared to add this additional folinic acid and I want to do it right this time. Guest guest
ShanthiMy son it currently on it also, we just started on Dec 30th of last yr. We did not see any sleep issues that werent already there but even that has resolved itself. My son has gone back to sleeping all night again. My understanding was that the MB12 shots were to stop while on this, better call and talk to nurses at Dr S's.I also had my son on MB12 shots for yrs and took him off them in Nov of last yr. He is currently taking the Immune G/I Reoovery Chewables, Advanced Nuero Transmitter Support, Mitochondrial Restore, D3, Leocovorin, Oxy powder (my son is a GI problem kid with methylation issues), Nuero Immune Support and Mentat (not a Dr S scrip but a wonderful product), plus he takes digestive enzymes with each meal. I also put him on Melatonin at night 5 mg, taken with his Immune G/I recovery right before he goes to bed. I am seeing some cognitive things I love plus disappearance of aggression. Guest guest
KimNow remember I said my son was a GI problem kid so this was the progression of supps added;Has been on Advanced Nueor T for long time, 2 a day.Has been on Mito Restore for long time, 3 a day.Oxy p 2 - 3 a day for last few yrs.D3 2 a dayWe saw Dr S in Sept and he added Immune G/I Recovery, saw some interesting cognative steps with that; responding faster to commands, more eye contact etc. In later Sept I added Mentat 1 tsp in am and 1 tsp in pm. Interestingly, things got even better. Mind you Im still dealing with aggression but Im seeing some understanding of explainations or reasoning as it were. I then added Betaine HCL and a little more aggression disappeared and more reasoning stepped in, more acceptance of disipeline. In Nov I switched to Digest tabs they have several different enzymes plus Betaine - 2 per meal. He is rocking right along now, aggression is deminishing, reasoning is going up, cognitive rising and so on. Go to Dr S's Dec 28th we discussed what he had found and how it is affecting his other patients and Im game, he hasnt ever steered us wrong yet :-)Now Ben is getting 4 Adv Nuero Trans a day (2 - 2xs)4 Mito Restore (2 - 2xs a day)2 D3 a day4 Immune G/I Recovery (2 - 2xs a day)1 luecovorin in am1 tsp Mentat 2xs a day6 digest tabs a day with meals1 pump of Nuero Immune stabilizer at 4 and another one at 7pm2-3 Oxy p caps in afternoon with afternoon pillsThis has made an interesting combo for my son. Reasoning has sky rocketed, aggression has deminished to practically nothing. He had quit sleeping in Dec before we started the increased levels of ANT and MR and Luecovorin so that wasnt the issue. I added 5mg melatonin on the 11th of Jan and now he as been consistently sleeping all night for nearly two weeks now. AND even when he wasnt sleeping he was still doing GREAT! Let me put it to you this way, at school now, he is going to regular PE class (my pushing), plus Im teaching them how to handle him behaviorally, I rewrote his BIP. He has already been to the Library once this week, plus doing all sorts of things. They wanted me to come in and teach them to handle him because as he has been getting better at home he had been getting worse at school. Thats because they werent doing anything with him and he was getting tired of setting at his desk and being bored stiff. The better he gets at home the more he does, he is getting used to doing things and doesnt like it when he goes somewhere and they treat him like he is stupid.Tamet Hi Tamet - Glad to hear your son is doing so wonderfully! Dr has prescribed Leocovor (folinic acid) to my 5yr old ASD son.I was reading about this folinic acid in web and I came across this article from tacanow web site. This section is from Dr Neubrander's presentation (on Methyl-B12 treatments) from Autism One conference in 2005.--quoteFolinic acid should be added after the first 5-week clinical trial but not at the same time as Methyl-B12. It should be added alone and its dose should start low and then be incrementally increased to see how it is tolerated. From my research, approximately 20% of children become hyper and/or cannot sleep when folinic acid is added.--unquoteNow I am wondering, can we give this medication at the same time with other MB12? Whoever is already on this medication, are you following any specific times for this? Also any sleep issues if taken in the night?3 years ago, when we started the Bio Med treatment for my son, this MB12 shots was one of the protocol we did. The MB12 shot had folinic acid and NAC as well. My son had severe sleep issues with this combo. Eventually we had to take him out of this protocol. Now my son is on Neurobiologix stabilizer cream (MB12 + folinic acid and other stuff) with no issues. Guest guest
Please look at the ingredients for the oral form http://www.drugs.com/pro/leucovorin-tablets.html Leucovorin still needs a breakdown to the readily usable folate which is the 5 methyl tetrahydrate form. See http://www.jacn.org/content/22/1/1/F1.expansion.html for diagram. For us, the folinic form which is what Leucovorin appears to be, was not satisfactory. Until we had used the 5 methyl form for awhile, folinic form caused the same rage and aggression as the synthetic folic acid. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Is Leocovor similar to Deplin, L-methyl folate? > > > > > > > > To: BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism > > Sent: Tue, January 24, 2012 10:39:54 PM > > Subject: Best time to take > > Folinic acid. Guest guest
The Deplin is helping my son. He is showing positive changes in his ability to stay calm while focusing on his school work when it is difficult. That and the Lamictal together have made a world of difference. My son's MTFHR test had two heterozygous mutations To: BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism Sent: Thursday, January 26, 2012 4:56 PM Subject: Re: Re: Best time to take Folinic acid. Guest guest
If you have MTHFR, you need 5 methyl tetra hydrofolate, or the equivalent of Deplin. We have an MTHFR mutation but no CF antibodies. Thank you very much for your response Krassi! That clears up a lot for me. I guess I should get the testing done to be on the safe side. Yes, my kids (and myself) look much healthier in colostrum. I have been looking into camels milk, too!! I'm glad your son seems to be benefitting. Thank you again fir clarifying for me. Just one more question... If you have the mthfr mutation but not CFD you still need to supplement with folinic acid, right? Guest guest
My son is doing well with neuro immune stabilizer cream. More energy, more skills developing etc. Additional folate is being prescribled based on the research the Dr said. Based on the research, kids lime ours, need 4 times of folinic acid than the regular requirement. He explained to us in great detail, probably 20 mins on this topic, I need to look into my notes. But it made very good sense, so we agreed to take it.
