Jacki 's response: I'm eating a moderate carb intake, and I think (I don't carefully count) I'm keeping my calories around 4000-4500 kcal per day, which is about maintainance level for me. Believe it or not, I used consume 5000-5500 kcal per day. My exercise program consists of heavy lifting three days a week. This is not at all what most medical professionals recommend, but lifting helps me regulate my blood sugar better than anything else. From Sandi : Doctor's advice: " Just keep doing what you're doing and see me about a year from now. " Cool, eh ? , Very cool indeed :-) I hope my doctor will say that... Sandy H. 's response: Maybe he or she will say that at your next visit ! -

Would you like to share with us what you have been doing to achieve those great numbers? Diet (whichone), exercise, medication? Guest guest
WONDERFUL!!!! test results I had my annual physical exam today. As some of you may recall, it was my physical last year that determined that I was diabetic. What a difference a year can make! Here are the results of last week's labs. Fasting glucose: 67 (was 77 in June, 339 a year ago) HbA1c: 4.9 (was 5.6 in June, 10.7 a year ago) Cholesterol: 200 (was 194 in June, 322 a year ago) HDL: 71 (was 52 in June, 47 a year ago) Non-HDL Cholesterol: 129 (was 142 in June, no reading a year ago) Triglyceride: 111 (was 68 in June, 285 a year ago) LDL: 107 (was 128 in June, 218 a year ago) All improvements except the total cholesterol and the triglycerides, but the doctor said the Tri is still w/in normal limits and because my ratios between HDL and LDL are improving she's not so worried about the total of 200. Obviously, I'm very pleased with the A1c! This was the first visit with my new doctor (my previous doc left the HMO) and I really like her. She's an internist, but she sees a lot of diabetics in her practice and seemed pretty well informed. She told me she rarely sees such good control, and especially in such a short time, from someone who started out where I did. She was very supportive of my efforts to educate myself and take control. She said to keep doing what I'm doing (very strict carb control and exercise, medication-free since 4/1/02) because it's working so well for me.
