Re: Is it Lyme?

Is your doc Lyme literate? Each doc has their own way of interpreting symptoms

and testing. The amount of people who say they tested negative and only tested

positive after starting to get well, or even after years of trying to get well,

is a grand amount. Of all the many posts I have seen, I think I have only seen

one who didn't test positive for band 41. But, any other band being positive is

important. Of course there is a chance of all that you mentioned. It appears

that most with Lyme or rather chronic health complaints, have many pathogens

(bacterial, viral, protozoa, etc.). So, most people on these health forums end

up treating long-term for many pathogen types. One doc I heard at a conference

says he treats the main pathogen he feels is causing the most symptoms and

tackles it from many directions and with several things.

Many of the same antibiotics used for Strep are used for tickborne infections.

Mycoplasmas, themselves, have been linked to serious chronic symptoms, so having

that infection, alone, is enough to be very concerned. I see that you are on a

good start. Sorry to tell you that this journey is a lot more longer and

confusing than we would like.

Love and prayers,

> Hi there. My son is 10 and was diagnosed this summer with PANDAS. He has high

strep titers and also has high IgG and IgM titers to mycoplasma pneumonia. Our

doctor also tested myself and my other kids for these and for Lyme. The kids all

came back negative for Lyme and I had one IgM band positive - band 39. I have

had two additional western blog tests run since and in the 2nd & 3rd I did not

show positive to band 39 but did to band 41.

one positive band - band 83.

something else but I have read very conflicting things. Band 83 is supposed to

be specific for Lyme I think. Any chance these be false positives or a virus

or other infection could be causing these unclear results.

He is an immunologist but I don't think he treats a lot of Lyme disease, himself. I imagine he has a better understanding of it than your typical doc, though. My son is currently on Biaxin, which is supposed to be effective for Lyme, strep, and mycoplasma P. I think he is unsure as to whether we have merely been exposed to Lyme, or whether there is Lyme disease, and wants to see if the immune system can clear it. I do think he has a good understanding of the other infections we are dealing with. I am not doing anything to treat Lyme in myself, since my testing has been so inconclusive. I do have elevated IgG (but not IgM) titers to mycoplasma P, Epstein Barr, and HHV6. THe HHV6 ones are quite elevated. How does one know if the past infections are causing a problems, or if you've effectively cleared them?Ruth
