Thanks,Yes, I just now read the first few paragraphs of this link.  I think there is a serious flaw in this study in an assumption that is made by the researchers.  Quote from article: " the high neediness participants actually experienced reductions in their self-esteem following the gratitude and music exercises compared with the control exercise... " I think it's a big mistake to assume it is desirable to raise self-esteem.  This is a huge problem in psychology - this whole self-esteem thing.  Some people point out that many criminals have high self-esteem.

Now on weather an exercise is helpful and has benefits - of course a particular exercise is beneficial some some people and not to others.  That's fine this study points out what kind of people this is not helpful for - " Needy people " .  You have to take things in your own hands and experiment and decide what is beneficial for you.  Often people what something handed to them - what to do and etc. without they having to decide for themselves what is good.  So no matter - ACT, CBT or PP or yoga or meditation or whatever - experiment and decide for your self what is beneficial and what works for you.

Cheers,

Hi Russel and all,Just came across this one, that goes a bit in the same direction as what you are hinting at:

Positive psychology exercises can be harmful for some

http://bps-research-digest.blogspot.com/2011/11/positive-psychology-exercises-can-be.html

It says *can* be harmful for *some*...But unfortunately the " some " may be many who are desperately looking for a " positive energy boost " ...Maarten
