Guest guest
For me the ERCP's have been a breeze. Usually the hard part in my case is getting the IV started. I now ask for the IV nurse so I don't get stuck so many times. The procedure itself takes about an hour or less after I am asleep til I am on my way to recovery. The versed they give helps immensely so the patient doesn't remember anything but sure causes my memory to be foggy afterward. I asked the same question many times without realizing it had already been answered. Just so you know......... By the next day I am as good as new and all the pampering my family gives me is over. Hope this helps. Barby married 22 years, 5 sons ages 21-10 UC 11yo, ileo 17yo, BCIR 1994 -39yo PSC-1995, sx start in 1999 Topeka, KS
Guest guest
Kath, Some but not all PSC patients have a tough time with ercp's. I am one of those who has to tough time with them. I have had 4 ercp's and have been hopitalized 4 times, each time about 1 week, with pancreatitis. I don't want to scare you but this is a strong possibility. I am not the only one in this group that has this problem. If they let you go and you start getting severe abdominal pain you need to go to your ER and get admitted. For me due to all the strictures I have, the procedure takes about 4 hours. Normally I think it should only take about 1 hour. Good luck, Hillbillybob psc dx 96 worried wife again Hi, I've read what I could find about the ERCP. Can anyone tell me about how long a procedure it is & possible risks??? I'm trying to arrange my childcare etc. for Thurs. What should expect?I called his Dr. yesterday & got something for the itch & some more Ativan to get him thru this waiting period. Thanks. Guest guest
My ERCP took about 2 hrs. but the procedure didn't take that long but waiting for everything to get ready, however you have to stay at the hospital for a few hours. Also what did the Dr. give him for the itch, I have been itching so bad can't sleep and feel like I would lose my mind if I don't get some relief. Atarax makes me so sleepy can hardly function in the day but it helps me to sleep. I am always anxious to see if something else might work. Martha from Mo. Guest guest
I have had two ERCP's with no problem. No one told me I couldn't eat after and Dick and I went out for a buffet lunch after leaving the hospital a half hour after my ERCP. The next time I ws in Hospital when I had it done. Again no problem They can't always give a correct diagnosis from this as I had two ultra sounds, 2 ERCP and a liver biopsy with inconclusive results. It was only after having an MRI they were sure of the suspected diagnosis of PSC. Happy New Year to all. Leona
Guest guest
Martha- The dr. gave Vistaril 25mg. He also has .5 Ativan just to get thru this waiting period. He hasn't been sleeping due to extreme itchiness & worry. The Vistaril seems to be helping. Thanks for the info re: ERCP- we're nervous about it.
