Guest guest
Hi, Dee. No, we have short term disability through the city, which is 6 months at 2/3 pay. And my insurance would still be covered as if I was working for those 6 months. I do have a policy I pay for for long term disability, for up to two years, but I don't know what would happen with my insurance if I went on that. In either case, you have to satisfy their doctors that you are disabled. Since this condition is so rare, I don't know what would happen. If I was denied, I couldn't just go back to work, because that would just prove that I wasn't disabled in the first place. And, in my shape and the awful job situation in Michigan, I would never be able to get another job. I know that sooner or later, I will have to make that decision. One day I will just have to acknowledge that I can't go on working through the pain and the problems with my bowels. (I have no control.) My nerves are shot from worrying about it and my depression is bad. Some times I wish I would just get laid off and then someone else would be making the decision for me. I guess I should be careful what I wish for. How long can you stay on LTD? Do you have insurance? Patsy
Guest guest
Patsy -- most LTD insurance will pay a percentage of your wage (usually 2/3) for up to 2 years if you are disabled from your CURRENT job. After the two year mark they will continue to pay if you are unable to work on a regular basis in ANY job. Most insurance companies will try and deny you after the 2 year mark and I had to get a lawyer to help me get my benefits continued. Ask your benefits coordinator at work to look into the coverage for you. It doesn't really matter what your condition is, what you need to prove is that you are unable to work on a regular basis in your current occupation or any other job (earning 2/3 of what you are making now). I am in Canada and policies may differ here, so check with your payroll or benefits person at work to see what your options are. If you end up pursuing this feel free to email me offlist -- can give you lots of tips as I have been through the system. If you were laid off then you wouldn't qualify for LTD which will pay you more money than Social insurance disability I'm assuming. Dee To: tetheredspinalcord From: sterlingrosebud@... Guest guest
It is not just Michigan, but everywhere. Too many jobs are continuing to go to India and China and there is nothing being about it. It is truly horrible for almost everyone, but especially if you are disabled. I wish we could all get together and do something. > > Hi, Dee.
