Yes this did happen to me. My cord went from L5 to L3 and retethered. When I had

it untethered the doctor discovered that I had spinal stenosis in that area and

that was probably the reason for the retethering. My symptoms were my foot

started to contract, frequent back pain, and my foot was numb.

Subject: re-thered

Hi, been a few yrs since I've been on. In 2001 had my spinal cord released

and MD said that my spinal cord had moved up a little and my question is can my

spinal cord re-attach to it's new location, has it happened to anyone on this

site and if yes what type of new symptoms did anyone have and did it lead to

another surgery?

Have many other thoughts/questions that have come on in the last 2 yrs and

that's why I'm reconnecting.

I retethered about 4 mos after my initial untethering. My cord had moved up

after my initial untethering as well. My symptoms were the same as b4 my

initial surgery - back, butt & leg pain. It required a second untethering. I

put it off for 1 1/2 yrs bc I swore I would never do it again. My MD was on

w it as long as my only symptom was pain ( & no loss of function - he said I

could put it off as long ad I could tolerate the pain). I had developed

extensive scar tissue - far more than he imagined from the scan &

arachnoiditis. After the second surgery, I developed hydrosyringomyelia &

needed a third surgery 6 mos after the second. Retethering is more common

than MDs tell their pts (IMO). They like to say that once u reach full

height or if u are already full grown, that u won't retether - SO not true.

Sorry u r having to deal w this.
