Guest guest
Hi Bronchiectasis Friends............I wanted to report to you all about finally being on a nebulizer. We returned to Iowa on March 20th and I saw my pulmonary Dr. last week. I walked into his office with all the info I received from this website and started to talk to him about nebulizers etc. He agreed to get me started so I have the Pari nebulizer with an Ipratropium Bromide 0.5 mg. and Albuterol Sulfate 3 mg. solution. So far, I haven't noticed a great deal of difference.......have noticed a dry throat and am getting headaches in the morning but don't know if that is due to the solution (probably being back in the cold IA weather!). Really wish he would of put me on a saline type of solution but this probably will be trial and error to find out what works the best. Question: Have any of you used the Ipratropium Bromide/Albuterol Sulfate solution? He also did a sputum culture and his nurse called to tell me I have pseudomonas and the Dr. said that Levaquin will work on that........so I told the nurse to ask the Dr. why I can't be on a rotation of Levaquin-Septa-Azithromycin so that I don't become resistant to Levaquin. The Dr. was not in the day she called me, so she said she would ask him when he comes in???? Communication with Drs. - I don't understand it. I am sure he will say just stay on Levaquin as long as it is working. I haven't started Levaquin again (I've been off for 3 wks. now). Am going to try and get "everything out" to stay on top of it. Will take my temp. at night so if I start to run a low grade fever - will then get on the antibiotic. Joy fom Oz- so very sorry to read about all your water problems. I pray things will get better for you SOON. Joy from WI - How did your visit to Mayo turn out? I hope they were able to help you. e - How is little Sammy doing these days? Am sure you are anxious to get to Rochester for an evaluation. Spring is starting to happen here in IA. The only bad part is that the deer ate all my tulips that were starting to grow! Guest guest
Levaquin is a very good antibiotic, but it has a LOT of side effects. You might ask your pulmonologist about putting you on Zithromax 3 days a week (M-W-F) instead. I'm doing much better on this than I was on the Levaquin. It caused me to have extreme exhaustion. Guest guest
Hi Sharyn, Ipratropium Bromide/Albuterol Sulfate solution?...................................... I have used it since 2005 2 times daily with no side effects. He also did a sputum culture and his nurse called to tell me I have pseudomonas and the Dr. said that Levaquin will work on that............................ Since 2005, I have been infected with pseudomonas on 3 separate occasions and never heard of Leviquin being used to treat a fungal infection. Each time I had pseudomonas, I was placed on VFEND which is the best anti-fungal drug on the market. Since my pseudomonas infections, I have been nebulizing Tobramycin sulfate inhalation to keep the pseudomonas under control. In August of this year, I had pneumonia and pseudomonas and was placed on Leviquin for 2 weeks......I failed the Leviquin. I was admitted into the hospital and placed on I.V.s for 4 days. I was then discharged with a PIC line of antibiotics for 2 weeks and placed on VFEND for 8 months. Right now I feel great and continue my nebulizers. I hope you find this information helpful and get well soon. Guest guest
hi Sharyn, first of all: the less abx (antibiotics) you have to use the better. 3 weeks is certainly not enough time for resistance to drop - maybe 3 years!Yes, I wish you could use saline, at least it's only about the same strength as sea water so doesn't do too much harm unless doing lots eg 4 x day which would dry out the upper bronchi & make them susceptible to infxn. I don't know anything about the nebs you're on, but do know that when I was prescribed (yrs ago) ventolin and albuterol I felt like I was about to die - heart racing, hard to breathe, weak, shaky etc. Seems common mistake - from others on this site - for Drs to prescribe nebs more suited to asthma. Can you web-search or ask Dr what these nebs are specifically for? Our "water" problems eased a couple of weeks ago, but not the mess we're still living in, and since the lessor just still hadn't done anything we went to an advocacy agency - response, we're evicted! She had to give us 2 months, but still, not an appropriate response.... I saw my GP and then specialist & am to be booked in to have IV abx 'hooked' in to my portacath next week. The hard part was finding out that in applying for govt Housing, because we've had 5 years here that actually goes against us!!! So, not much chance of housing there unless we become truly homeless in a few weeks. We are applying for a Tribunal hearing (I think she can't evict us once this is done but not sure) & at least we are conservatively assured we should be eligible for compensation., I should * & ^%# think so!With the dryer weather it is starting cool down a little. Nights still warm, but days cooler, no need for fans in your face ALL the time! Today, not at all .... so lovely!and to others, many hugs and thanks for all your support and caring thoughts - a most wonderful mob I couldn't imagine anywhere!!cheers, Joy (from Oz)"We only need to breathe gently for the miracle to be revealed: birds singing, flowers blooming, the blue sky, the white cloud floating, .....
