Guest guest
I have been following the " Cortisone Injection " topics and am curious. Are they for pain or what? My daughter has terrible tailbone pain. When we mention it to the Dr. he just kind of shrugs. Just trying to figure out the cortisone and if it something that might help with the tailbone, or the shocks in her butt. Also spasms, is that something that is happening because her surgery is still fairly fresh or is this something we can count on to continue? Five surgeries and this is the first time she has had spasms. Bad ones too! Sometimes her whole leg from the hip down will come at least 12 inches off the bed and slam down hard. It has to be painful! They had her on 2.5mg of valium 2x daily. I was concerned about the valium, so I only gave it as needed. When she went to her primary care, he increased it to 5mg, 4x daily. I still only give it as needed. She only seems to get them when she has had an active day or been to PT. Livvie
Guest guest
Hi, Well I was initially diagnosed with a tail bone issue, so I had a couple of these. They didn't really do anything for me, typically they are done in a series of 3. You have 2 to determine if the treatment worked, and if it does have the 3rd one. They last around 6 months if I remember correctly and just target that specific area. They help if your tail bone is causing the bulk of your problems.Did she fall? I just had an injection done on my buttocks, they are trigger point injections of a steroid and lidocaine. That helped a little bit. Has she tried Baclofen? That helped me a lot more for the the muscle spasms than valium ever did. I was told multiple times that valium is not a great muscle relaxer, nor should it be classified as one by people. There are so many other great ones out there that are not as irritating to take. I was so sleepy all the time on it. Try Soma, or any other muscle relaxers if you haven't. I would also say that make sure she is not clenching pelvic muscles, they have a lot to do with all the pain in that area. Guest guest
Livvie, I was also going to add, you may look at http://www.coccyx.org/. They have a list of professionals who work with this type of pain, I used one when I first fell and she was amazing. If your daughter fell she mad need manual manipulation, just to warn you. But I basically cured myself if it by just doing pelvic PT and some home things. The injections are worth a try, always. If she is in horrible pain I would look into them. There should be a good doctor on that list, if not call one of the physical therapists on there, they will tell you who to call Let me know if you have any questions, and my heart goes out to her. It's horrible pain. Guest guest
Thanks for the info . She did fall before the holidays, but the tailbone pain had started before that. Her most recent tether was around l3 to s4 so I wonder if the pain is more related to the TSC than to the fall. She is on 10mg of Baclofen every 8hrs. Her toes are almost constantly spasming and I have noticed that even when she caths the bag moves, she says related to the spasms. I don't know, I don't feel what she does, but am very frustrated for her. Thanks again for the info and I will look at the list.
