Hello everyone;

Me again with the Dad that blacked out and the little girl with CF.

I'm wondering if any of you get temporary relief from prednisone? It works

wonders for my daughter with only a 4 day course. My Dad is having a hard time

right now, coughing all the time, can't sleep, can't laugh, etc. Would a small

course help him?

Thanks

karen

Hi ,

I think your dad would benefit from seeing a doctor. Predisone has helped me, but I was usually given an antibiotic as well when I needed it. I hope your dad will feel better soon.

– some factors which need to be looked at in cases of dizziness and perhaps “ blacking out” include medication, (some tablets can give rise to dizziness), old age (sorry – wear and tear!), also trouble with arthritis in the neck. This latter may be associated with VBI – vertibrobasilar insufficiency which is a temporary interruption to the blood supply to the brain due to ‘kinking’ of the artery in the neck.Tony L (Not the Tony who is a regular contributor but the Tony who is a long time lurker who only emerges at infrequent intervals!). - I think most people on here would have had some wonderful relief from prednisone .

Generally taken very strictly- because it is a steroid—it is given in larger doses then gradually weaned down and off--

It is wonderful.

However make sure you have a good doctor who is observant- and takes the time to check things and not leave your daughter on it too long etc,

You don’t say how old your daughter is- but you say she has CF.

I dare say then that the docs do watch carefully--- Prednisone has many long term bad side effects---

but given correctly – and watched carefully- it works wonders--

Prednisone is given for many other things also—I have been severely effected and gross damages by having being prescribed large doses for many many years—so I steer clear- however I have been prescribed a tiny amount to kick start several pain relief meds and arthritis meds-

I was on it for years with asthma, and the bronch—many of my problems now in my 60’s is direct result of prednisone- however I also believe on several occassions it saved my life--

It is something that must be monitored- - it causes fluid retension, so weight gain is often a big problem too

NEVER ever give anyone prednisone without the doctor prescribing—it is a dangerous steroid only to be used under strict control .—Kind Sandy( )

hi ,

it's impossible to give 'advice' or even suggestions on medications, especially a steroid, having so many side effects as they do.  Do be aware any steroid (ie anything ending in '-one' usually eg cortisone) contributes to osteoporosis, digestive problems, nutrient absorbtion...a huge range of things.  And they do not cure, only mask symptoms but reducing inflammation.  As soon as the med is ceased the symptoms can often start again, sometimes worse.  (Tho not, of course, always).PLEASE see your doctor as it should be the only way you can get such a prescription any way...cheers,Joy
