Tara D.,

If I am not mistaken, a Thickened Filum is a form of Tethered Cord - so

as I see it, the MRI picked it up, and it wouldn't be exploratory.

Hope things are going well now.

For those of you with the thickened filum, at what level did your spinal cord

end?

My dd was at bottom of L2 and they said it was normal.  The vast majority are

usally @ L1-L2 or higher and few are at L2 but can be normal at L2.  That is

part of why my dd 1st nsg said no. There are studies that you can still have a

tcs with normal mri findings.carol

Hi, mine was at S2 so a VERY long way down and abnormally stretched in a

bowstring formation. The cord moved up 2.5cm (about an inch) when

detethered

Very low. S2.  They could actually see the bowstring?  how amazing.  For my dd,

there were tiny fat showing in the mri but really didn't show the

wideness(greater than 2mm) until he did the surgery.  Did your nsg cut a piece

out? or just cut it to release it?
