Ann,

Please let us know the results of your research of the gum on your sinuses. I also have chronic sinusitis. Now I am having a problem due to a runny nose most likely due to the windy conditions and high humidity in this part of Texas right now. When it is cold and dry, my sinuses get quite congested. I was also told by the Wrigley Company representative that one of the Orbit sugarless gums helps whiten teeth. I also need to try that one since I have a dental appointment this week.

I spent some time after church Sunday at Walmart studying ingredients on gum packages. Orbit gum has mannitol contained in them. So as I chew these in the future, I will pay attention to what it does in my sinuses and elsewhere.

This will be known as the Ann Mannitol Study or MAMS.

Hi All,

Dr. Oz recommends using the Neti Pot once a day. Two of my co-workers have been using it for over a year and a half with excellent results. One has asthma and the other frequent sinus infections. Each of them have not had a problem since they started to use it. It can be purchased at your Pharmacy.

Eileen - so interesting that you don't have much mucus when you are well. Everyone's body is different.......I always have a lot of mucus. Hope you are feeling better with the levaquin. Wondering how is doing with the Pulmozyme.........

Hi Sharyn,

Yes I use it 2X a day, however, I don't find that it brings up mucus. As a rule, I don't need to bring up mucus during my well periods; I dont have a need to.

Presently, I have an infection......I can taste the mucus so I know it's there, but nothing comes up. I was on Cipro for one week, and now I'm on Levaquin. I will have a chest x-ray this week and hope it's not pneumonia or aspergillus again as I had it this past August.EILEEN

Sharyn - I have an appointment for an x-ray at 2:00 today so I will have a better idea of what's going on. If it's Mold, it will not show up...I would need sputum cultures. My Plumonologist would have prescribed it immediately, however I have to go thorough my Primary first. If she can't find the solution, then she will give me a referral to my Plumonologist......unfortunately this is the HMO system.

I picked up the 7 tablets of Levaquin she prescribed which cost $45.00 as it is a tier 4 drug. It's the same price for a months supply, but she will not write it for a month. Believe me, I have no intentions of taking an overdose.

Norma-- My son Sam had chronic sinus infs for about 2years. We weretold by a 'hack' surgeon that he should have sinus surgery. He was 6at the time. We went to another ENT for a 2nd opinion and herecommended a BALLOON SINUPLASTY. Scared us but aftermonths of dealing w/inf and several other spec drs- we waitedfor all of them to agree it's time and in Aug '09 our 2ndopinion ENT did the sinuplasty. Sam recovered in less than a day. AND AND has NOT had 1 sinus infection since Aug '09.It was fairly new then, but I've heard that there are so manysuccess stories w/ this surgery that I'm sure most ENTs knowabout it and most likely do it now. There is no tissue removed, nothing removed

whatsoever. No need for packing the nasal cavity full of cotton (OUCH!)and no blood whatsoever! Best thing: no more infections! It works like an angioplasty, where they just go inside theartery or passage and open things up to allow for moreblood flow, or in the case of the sinusplasty, allow forair to pass thru and keep things flowing and cleaned out.Something to think about... One of the side benefits of being on and off antibiotics for over a year, and

also using the inhaled saline, is that I have no more sinus problems!!! I used

to get a couple of douzzies at least twice a year. My doctor thinks the inhaled

saline has a lot to do with it - I wear a face mask - don't use the hand-held

device - so some goes into the nasal passages.

Kris -- My ENT does balloon sinuplasty; however, since I cannot have general anesthesia, I cannot have it. I have not had any sinus infections since Sept. 09. I use Sinus-Pulse Elite Sinus Irrigation System. It works by pulsation which is supposed to restore the cilia. I have had it for several years. I paid $108.00 for it as it was new then. I have a catalog from Allergy Asthma Technology in Chicago where it is listed as $79.00 now. When I travel or go to the hospital, I use the NeilMed bottle which can be purchased in a grocery store. I bought mine online. That is what National Jewish in Denver gives their patients.

I am glad that Sam's surgery was such a success, and he doesn't have infections anymore. I wish that this procedure had been available when I had my FESS surgery. I probably would still have FESS surgery since I sinus problems for so many years and they also had to reduce the size of the middle turbinate. When I was in high school, I was in an auto accident with my parents and broke my nose. I have often wondered if that had anything to do with my sinus problems.
