Guest guest
Dr Oz is having a show on pain managment right now. He said dr's have a long way to go in understanding pain and how to treat it. Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Pain Doctors Does anyone have problems with their pain doctors undertstanding that you are not a normal spine patient?I have had two untetherings 4 years apart. I am still tethered, and still have lipoma's inside spinal cord at L4,L5,S1,S2.Some could not be removed because of nerves going thur them.On top of that I have alot of scar tissue as well. I have constant pain in my legs, feet, ankles, toes.I cant walk very far because of this. The pain wakes me up at night and I have to get up and walk around. If I do too much during the day you can bet I will have an accident at night(I dont know when this happens) My pain doc keeps taking away pain meds from me because he said that starting at the beginning of next year they are going to drop the amount of mg's of pain meds a patient can take during the day. I do not abuse my meds ever. I need them to get thur the day. Am very upset about this. I just dont know what to do. Sorry, I dont post often, just needed to get this off my mind and find out what others are doing? I am getting ready to have another MRI in the next couple weeks, just waiting for doctor to set up. Thanks everyone for reading. Hope you all have a painless day. Christie

Guest guest
Who is going to decrease the pain meds? The state/gov? Have not heard anything about that.Yes... doctors esp. pain ones have real issues with it. And if yours likes injections then you have an even bigger problem. I got really lucky, go to a clinic that gets it. I have no problems getting my meds, or having them increased (after 1 year). My advice would be.. find someone who gets it and who is seen as a leader in their field, not someone who is looking to make money, or treats people like they are all a pill away from junkie. Easier said then done, I know. My theory is that if you have a legitimate need for pain medication, and you show no sign of abuse, you should be allowed to make your own decision. Guest guest
This is what the doctor told me today. Is it the gov. or FDA or that decides what the limit should be? I have tried their spinal stim trial, I wont let them give me injections. So i guess they arent really making any money off me anymore. The doctor today decreased my meds. I have all kinds of MRI's that states my conditions. I also have neck issues on top of everything else. My spinal cord is slowly being pinched off by bone spurs and vertabre. My arms, hands, wrist are not working very well, and I get a odd sensation at the back of my neck and then break out in a sweat because the pain is so bad. This doctor doesnt even touch me when i go in. > > > Subject: Re: Pain Doctors > To: tetheredspinalcord > Date: Tuesday, September 27, 2011, 3:42 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Â > > > > > > > > > > Dr Oz is having a show on pain managment right now. Guest guest
Christie, I haven't had a problem with my current physiatrist whom I have been seeing since 2002-ish. During that time, I have changed meds (usually bc insurnace changed what was covered), had my dose increased and most recently decreased (by 80mg/day). We both want to go lower, but until we can find a med that controls my neuropathy, its just not possible. But maybe one day... But, I have been to other pain mgmt docs that don't like to Rx narcotics. It has been my experience that physiatrists seem more understanding than the traditional pain clinics. I think because those that are strictly pain clinics see more abusers through their doors. Someone generally visits a physiatrist because they have physical problems in addition to the pain and are looking for overall management of the condition. At least that has been my experience and impression. If the clinic you are currently going to does not use physiatrists, then I would suggest trying to find one. I recently had a MRI and brought my films with me to my last appointment. After he put them on the view box, he laughed, just amazed. He's never seen anyone with a MRI as screwed up as mine. Then again, I suppose i'm used to it by now. When I went to the hospital for my first myelogram, I couldn't figure out why all these MDs and rad techs were coming to see me. Apparently I was the case of the day. There are MDs that get it. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to find them. I've not heard anything about the govt limiting the amount of narcotics that can be taken during the day. I think that is a rumor or just an outright lie he told. My MD has been gigged by the DEA many years ago, so he follows the letter of the law closely. I'm sure he would have said something to me if that was going to happen. Guest guest
Jenn, am with you. I would like nothing more then to be totally off these meds. I totally agree. All of them > > > ** > > > > > > Does anyone have problems with their pain doctors undertstanding that you > > are not a normal spine patient?I have had two untetherings 4 years apart.
