from my understanding the things some of you have had in early life

do seem to be main contesters for causing bronch later on.

Bronch is referred to as " idiopathic " meaning no known cause. So the

causes in our own cases we can work out things as being reasonable

triggers...

Joy,Yes idiopathic is the primary quote that we get for our young son.He had a rather insignificant infiltration of infection in the lowerlobe of his right lung when he was 3 months short of his 4thbirthday. That's the only lung issue he was ever formallydiagnosed with. The dr @ Mayo Clinic was trying veryhard to find something to tag Sam's Bronchiectasis diagnosison, and he did NOT think that the slight infiltration in theone lobe was enough to pin it on. SO I know how luckywe are to have gotten this diagnosis so young and early.I wonder if most of you would be so better off, had weall had better health care in our younger years. Imagine! We do think, however that my husband's side may havea genetic link. His father and newly-discovered 25yr olddaughter both show signs of this

disease. I wonderif any of you can think of someone that could have passedthis on to you--? It is what it is, isn't it? Best wishes-eSubject: Re: causes of bronchTo: bronchiectasis Date: Friday, June 3, 2011, 10:28 AM

Hi allyes interestingly I believe I could have inherited it. to a point. My grandfather was a coal miner in wales and always had a bad chest. My father has had a bad chest since he was a teenager, I had a couple of chest infections as a child and yes the so called measles they say linked to bronch but honestly I dont think they really know.As with many diseases I think drs just guesshope all of you are keeping as well as can be.....I am run off my feet as usual, poor dad who had a fall before easter has now been told Yes your hip IS broken. poor man has been living with all that pain since then and walking on it but they wont operate now as they say it is probably healing. he is 90 for gods sake. So now have both mum and dad with broken hips next to each other. life sux around

herehugs to you all from leeTo: bronchiectasis Sent: Sunday, 5 June 2011 12:23 AMSubject: Re: causes of bronch

hi Lee,

great to hear from you!!! But sorry such sad news too... How are

YOU coping? We all know how much stress makes bronch harder to deal

with, and you've had so much this past few years, not just your own

health but those of your parents as well. Are they both now in same

nursing home?

With my own parents both 90+ it's surprising they're living at home &

still functioning, sort of. They don't have an official carer so far

as I know, but sure big sis will be in there ... (sadly, 'big sis' is

cause I now have " no family " ...).

Back to causes of bronch! ... if had a lung abnormality in common

for eg, then that could be passed on perhaps, in similar way people

have potential for heart failure? To be hereditary has to be genetic.

Otherwise, it would be environment, lifestyles of each individual -

family traits, habits ... eg kids w/ parents that smoke & are

overweight there's every chance kids will be same - partly

environment, partly learnt.

cheers,

Joy

I strongly think bronc is generic, in that you have propensity for it. my dad had it but w/o a name. I just knew he spit out stuff for a long time. his sister, my aunt also has it. BTW, he died last year at 96, still with it. my aunt now 87, with it, swims daily.

and I am 70, and hope to out live my dad, in case God is listening. my golf game is terrible, but it has nothing to do with my bronc.

my dad and aunt were maybe 70. my dad not officially diagnosed but coughed up copious amounts of green. then he'd go out and mow the lawn. on his 85th birthday, he had to go to the emergency room for stitches received while playing volley ball. when finally in nursing home, they felt he prob always had it but just did whatever to control. remember he was 96 when he died.
