Guest guest
It can be very difficult communicating with my 8 year old son who wants to be independent and left alone about any medical worries, and this has been a challenge all along. But today, I am deeply troubled after a walk to the park where my son declined to running with his brother and his friends. His reasons were vague and suspicious. First it was his neck, then his stomach, and the last I heard it was his legs, which hurt when he ran, although when he was trying to keep up with the other boys he was bent over to the side with his hand cradling the flank area of his back. In the past, he has always had more stamina than any of the other children his age. I guess things are going to change for him now. I don't know what to expect, and naturally, I am anxious about it. I suppose what will be will be, but I just thought I would throw this out there and see if anyone had anything to say about it. Thanks, Holly
Guest guest
Hi Holly, Fortunately, you are very aware of what this " could " be. Is he going through a growth spurt? When our son was either starting to hit one or in the midst, his appetite would go through the roof and he would get leg pains (he does not have any medical problems). From personal experience, I know that growth spurts can bring on symptoms that at times will settle back to normal after the growth; however, given that you know he has a condition where back pain and other symptoms can be signs that all is not as should be, I would highly suggest a visit to a neurologist. Not sure if I would rush to a neurosurgeon, that's a personal call. But, a neurologist can assess the situation and make recommendations. Kathy What's up with my son not wanting to run?
