That's a normal number for me in the morning....and I have diabetes. You

should get an A1c test. If you have access to strips and a meter, test

yourself every morning, then two hours after each meal, and write it all

down.

Yes, the glucose tolerance test is way more appropriate for diagnosing

diabetes than just a fasting glucose. If all the doc did was fasting glucose,

he's not the sharpest tack!

This is so true. There is a lot of good and useful information shared by the

members of this group, but each individual has to find out what works for

them. Also, if someone doesn't have confidence or trust in their doctor,

immediately get another one. You are only wasting your time and your

doctor's time when you keep going to him/her and not listening to or working

with him/her.

Always discuss with your doctor or pharmacist, any meds you are taking

including over-the-counter and herbs. Because one person can take it,

doesn't mean everyone else can. We are all striving to keep our bg's normal,

but remember " what is the point in having normal bg's, if it contributes to

other health problems " .

It does not sound like you have had any real effort to determine

if you were diabetic.

When they say your blood glucose is 88, do they mean 8.8? Which

is terrible. Do they give you the a1c test?

I had neuropathy which went undiagnosed for years because when

I complained of exactly the same symptoms you are with my feet

and my legs, they didn't really think it was diabetes. I lost

two major nerves in each leg before the neurologist told me to

get on them for diabetic treatment. They had diagnosed me

as diabetic somewhat earlier (but not as early as they should have)

because I failed the test in which they administer glucose

to you over a long period of time (don't remember how long). The

doctor then immediately turned me over to his nurse practioner

who proceeded to ignore the meetings with me to the point that I

demanded twice to see the doctor and was refused both times. I

was then intimidated by both the doctor and the practioner coming

in and jumping down my throat. I changed doctors. I got nowhwere

until someone finally put me on medication. However, the medication

level was inadequate. I did not lose weight and was unable to

control my diabetes until I was able to use tight control. I then

lost 50 pounds. I then had trouble getting them to lower my

medicine. When they did and lowered it too much, so that i am

right back to where I was before (and am no longer losing weight) they

would not raise it. It is ludicrous how diabetics are treated.

After hearing a lot of your posts, it seems to me that the medical

profession doesn't take type 2 diabetes seriously. Which is an

absolute shame! Given proper treatment and care, type 2 can be

controlled very well! I have personally never had problems getting

support/medication/education classes/supplies covered/etc but I think

it's more because I'm a type 1 diabetic. It seems that they take

that type more seriously. I really think that medical professionals

need to realize both types deserve the same kind of attention,

coverage, and care!
