Hello Everyone,

My daughter went to a physiatrist hoping he would have some magic thoughts

regarding pain meds that would not increase her apetite..he didn't :( But

he did recommend among other things a one or two day partial fast..ie from

1PM til the next morning not eating at all. It apparently has been said to

jump start the immune system, maybe help nerves etc. I don't know that

she will do it but curious if anyone else was familiar with this. He does

it

himself and suggested she try it one day a week. I think it may come from

a Buddhist tradition?

I wonder if you have researched Remeron, used for many different problems. It

can also help with sleep and appet.

You are right. Not eating regularly can cause metabolism to slow. Also,

especially not eating breakfast will put the body in starvation mode and

cause it to try to hold on to calories (thinking its not going to get

anymore soon), which in turn causes weight gain. It is best to eat the

bigger meals earlier in the day (breakfast and lunch) and have a small

dinner and nothing after 7ish (assuming one goes to bed around 9-10). The

body's metabolism slows in sleep (you're not burning calories), so if you

eat a big meal at dinner fewer of those calories will be burned. Whereas if

you eat the biggest meal of the day for lunch, then you're going to burn

those calories with the activity for the rest of the day. I agree with Dee

that a healthy meal replacement is a good option if she has a hard time

making healthy choices. Another good diet to follow is Volumetrics. You have

to eat a minimum amount of calories each day and when my friend did it, she

had hard time meeting the minimum and would end up eating a few teaspoons

of peanut butter to meet them. It focuses on large quantities of foods that

have a high water content. so you can eat a TON of food. Definitely not

hungry on this diet. Check out that one. But I have a feeling, she needs to

come to terms with the idea that she can no longer eat what she wants and

not exercise and not gain weight.
