Guest guest
I guess the ticks are out in numbers around here (So. Cal area - I posted a few weeks ago about my son's friend getting 2 bites.). I just did a tick check after a hike and found one on my 5 year old daughter's back (maybe there for a couple hours). I am sending the tick to IgeneX for testing for lyme and all co-infections. But I want to start antibiotics right away. Our LLMD (from my son) moved to No. Cal a while ago. We have a call in for him, but I doubt we will here back from him. We are going to our local doctor. What antibiotic and dosage should I recommend that my daughter should take until be get the test results back? Thank you so much, Rich (skiweasel7)
Guest guest
Amoxicillin is the antibiotic of choice for children under 8. Don’t know the dose as it depends on the weight of the child. Ask for a high dose, similar to one that would be used to treat a serious infection. Anne Mears, RN, MSN/IHmcfighter@... Guest guest
See www.ilads.org, treatment guidelines- while it is amox, it should be the right dose, underdosing is a real problem, and right duration, at least 6 wks. This bacteria is one of the slowest growing bacteria know to science so a short course can get through few replication cycles, the whole basis for antibiotic treatment. Compare to strep that multiple times during a day so 7-10 days on strep hits many replication cycles and therefore knocks down quite a load. Many bacteria are only vulnerable to antibiotics while replicating. Re- the ILADs guidelines, Dr. Burrascano's are the most up to date. Alternatively, talk to Dr. Lee Cowden, Nutramedix about using Samento/Banderol. - Dr. Eva Sapi found these to be more effective than recommended doxy/amox for acute lyme. - www.lymeactionpa.comSent via BlackBerry by AT&TSender: BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism Date: Sun, 15 Apr 2012 21:09:52 -0700To: <BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism >ReplyTo: BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism Subject: RE: 5 year old daughter bitten by tick Amoxicillin is the antibiotic of choice for children under 8. Guest guest
Thank you Anne and all the others who posted and e-mailed. My daughter is starting Amoxicillin today and the tick is in the mail to IgeneX (testing for lyme and all co-infections). Thanks again to all of you. -Rich (skiweasel7) > > Amoxicillin is the antibiotic of choice for children under 8. Don't know > the dose as it depends on the weight of the child.
