Guest guest
Hi,We are very new to the Lyme world. My son has GI symptoms, but none of the classic Lyme symptoms. Still, because has been bitten many times by ticks in North Carolina (and probably Philadelphia, as well) and because his GI issues are so intractable we are looking in to Lyme. We just did the bloodwork for Advanced Labs, which I know only tests for Lyme. Do you think that it's worth doing Igenex to look for co-infection? I know that some people think Fry Labs is another good option. Our LLMD had nothing bad to say about Fry, but seemed more inclined to have us do the Igenex test. I know it has a good reputation, but I also know that some folks have not gotten accurate results from Igenex. Any thoughts would be most appreciated. Thanks,
Guest guest
Hey , I think you are talking about Advanced lab service and that's a culture and pretty conclusive. I think if I we're you, I might wait to get those results and there will be a culture test for Bart coming out in a month or so per Dr B, my son's LLMD. Then, if you get a pos lyme test, you know that there will likely be co-infections and you may have the newest, better Bart test by then and at that point, go with the best antibody test you can find for the rest of the co-infections. We used a vet lab that's most reliable and pretty inexpensive, also per Dr b. About $250 for the test. Debbie Gravois We did the western blot, then also the $1100 igenix and it was inaccurate as it was inconclusive and it's so much wasted money. Kept getting one pos band and a couple neg bands and they we're not even the same bands so I would have to have merged the results of the tests...but if I did, he was positive. Too much money on inconclusive testing. -- Igenex -- how accurate is the test? Should we do it in addition to Advanced? Hi,We are very new to the Lyme world. Guest guest
My LLMD talked to the director of Advanced to get more info for the test and the culture test only goes down to the genus of borrelia(there are 36 species of borrelia)not a specific test just for lyme. It could still be good but just know that going in. RobinH. > > Hey , > I think you are talking about Advanced lab service and that's a culture and > pretty conclusive. Guest guest
Robin, do you think there are tests we should be doing other than the Advanced Lab? We considered doing Fry Labs, but our LLMD is not really suggesting we do this. I am a little confused as to what tests we should do....Different people seem to have different opinions. Guest guest
This just my opinion, but I think Igenex western blot is a what we have right now. I think it is better than most out there. It is a hard decision to make. $$. My LLMD said to wait on the culture test for now, that maybe they might get to be more specific for lyme. I trust his opinion. People come from other countries to see him. Every appt. we have, we meet people from all over. My hubby and I both have lyme and are watching our son closely. Technically his w.blot was negative and his pcr was negative but he did have specific bands that were inconclusive on his wblot test. Just working on some other things right now with him. Hope that helps? RobinH. > > > > > > Hey , > > > I think you are talking about Advanced lab service and that's a culture and > > > pretty conclusive.
