Guest guest
Then I would get it. You don't have to always use it if you are feeling well. That is what we do for my daughter. If she isn't with us or not getting out, we do not park in handicap. If she is feeling good that day, we won't use it either. Anne To: tetheredspinalcord From: cbrimhall@... Date: Thu, 1 Mar 2012 19:47:27 +0000 Subject: handicap parking permit Hi, Does anyone here know what are the qualifications for handicap parking permits? Mine expires in a couple of weeks and I am debating if I should go to my doctor and ask for it to be renewed. I don't need it all the time and I am continuing to heal since my surgery 10/2010. But I still have times where my legs are very weak. In general, I can walk about a mile or 20 minutes before my legs start to get rubbery. So, as long as I keep my shopping trips short, I am okay. I am lucky enough to send my husband to the store when we need to fill the fridge. But this does not make me very independent. What do you think, do I apply for new permit? What are the parameters? It would be nice to know before I spend $150 for a drs appointment. Thanks, Carol
Guest guest
Look up your states dmv website and it will be on there. I have one for a heart condition and just emailed the form to them and they mailed it to me then i did my part and took it to dmv. U may not have to go to the dr for them to do it. Guest guest
Hi Carol, I think the qualifications vary by state. I printed the form and faxed to my neurosurgeon, he emailed it back and I sent it in.In Illinois if you want a temp I think you go to DMV, otherwise they mail to you. My issue is walking long distances, I thought he would approve a temp for me, but I got a permanent plate. The whole thing took maybe 2 weeks Subject: Re: handicap parking permit To: tetheredspinalcord Date: Thursday, March 1, 2012, 3:33 PM  Look up your states dmv website and it will be on there. Guest guest
I got mine from our town hall, my doctor just had to fill out the form. I think they said renewal procedure will be the same, probably can have the dr. fax it to me. I don't use it all the time, but it's good to have it on those days when I've just pushed it too much, especially if I've got to push a grocery cart.  To: tetheredspinalcord Sent: Thursday, March 1, 2012 2:47 PM Subject: handicap parking permit  Hi, Does anyone here know what are the qualifications for handicap parking permits? Guest guest
More on Illinois.... It is well worth your time to obtain a state ID indicating your disability. It makes it much easier to get the plates as well as property tax benefits, etc.. They are easy to obtain and cost very little. M > Hi Carol, > I think the qualifications vary by state.
