Guest guest
Dee, I use Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega. It has 650 mg EPA per capsule. I try to take 2 to 4 per day, but as you advise I would really need the 4 to total 2600mg EPA. It has 450 DHA,180 of other omega 3's and oleic acid 56 mg. Does that sound right? I think maybe I'm taking too much when I take 4 a day? > > > > > > Subject: RE: managing neuropathy and pain > > To: tetheredspinalcord > > Date: Friday, November 25, 2011, 9:29 PM > > > > > > > > Has anyone tried high doses of fish oil for pain? My doctor has recommended that I take 2,000 - 3,000 mg of EPA (in addition to the DHA in the fish oil pills). I have avoided this for years due to a suspected fish allergy but after recent testing have been cleared to go ahead and so far no reactions. I will report back in a few months and let you know if it makes any difference in my pain levels. For me, inflammation really feels like the trigger for my back pain as I wake up relatively pain free til I start moving around. I'm also curious to see if it helps my headaches. Interestingly, my doctor is also using intravenous curcumin to treat many pain conditions, as well as an adjunct to cancer patient's treatments and other inflammatory disorders. So far he has had amazing results with some arthritis patients who are now completely off their meds -- this treatment is brand new to the clinic so still in the early stages of understanding what it > will > > help and what it won't. He's only been using it for less than 6 months. That is another option I could try down the road to see if it made a difference. Anyways, something to think about for those who cannot tolerate many of the drugs. Guest guest
Yup, 4 is what you would want according to my MD who specializes in nutritional medicine, as well as my naturopath who I just consulted on this topic. A cheaper way to get this high dose is with the liquids -- reputable brands for liquid oils include Carlson's, Nordic Naturals and Genestra. It also sounds like it can take months to reap the full benefits of this dose. I myself didn't realize I needed such a high dose for the therapeutic benefits. If you didn't catch the article I included in my first post here it is again: http://ezinearticles.com/?Fish-Oil-for-Natural-Pain-Relief & id=5947681 DeeTo: tetheredspinalcord From: stvtm@... Guest guest
This is good information. I have only been taking 1000mg. I will try to upping the dosage and see if the improves my pain management. FYI- I had a massage Monday and feel great! Completely worth the money. I am going to start bring my lunch to work and save money so I can have more massages! > > > > > > I take this:http://www.procapslabs.com/Products/details.aspx?Essential+Omega-3%u2122+-+\ Unflavored > > Here's an article I found: http://ezinearticles.com/?Fish-Oil-for-Natural-Pain-Relief & id=5947681 > > > > > >
