Guest guest
Has anyone tried high doses of fish oil for pain? My doctor has recommended that I take 2,000 - 3,000 mg of EPA (in addition to the DHA in the fish oil pills). I have avoided this for years due to a suspected fish allergy but after recent testing have been cleared to go ahead and so far no reactions. I will report back in a few months and let you know if it makes any difference in my pain levels. For me, inflammation really feels like the trigger for my back pain as I wake up relatively pain free til I start moving around. I'm also curious to see if it helps my headaches. Interestingly, my doctor is also using intravenous curcumin to treat many pain conditions, as well as an adjunct to cancer patient's treatments and other inflammatory disorders. So far he has had amazing results with some arthritis patients who are now completely off their meds -- this treatment is brand new to the clinic so still in the early stages of understanding what it will help and what it won't. He's only been using it for less than 6 months. That is another option I could try down the road to see if it made a difference. Anyways, something to think about for those who cannot tolerate many of the drugs. Here's an article I found: http://ezinearticles.com/?Fish-Oil-for-Natural-Pain-Relief & id=5947681
Guest guest
, what is the dose you have been taking? I looked up that brand and unless there's a different one you're using it's only got 175 mg EPA per capsule. My doctor wants me on 2,000-3,000 mg EPA which he said is what is needed for depression and chronic pain (I don't suffer from depression but I gather the suggested doses are similar). Can you actually get fish oil covered as a prescription in the US? DeeTo: tetheredspinalcord From: lilacs007@... Guest guest
That is amazing you can get that as an RX -- have to pay for everything " natural " here, even iron supplements that are prescribed. Just a note on what you are taking, to get the therapeutic benefit for pain you would need at least 14 of those pills -- there are many other options for higher doses -- can give you some info if you're interested. It is at least 2,000 mg of EPA that you need -- not mg of fish oil combined. That seems to confuse everyone -- I hate the way they label things. Dee To: tetheredspinalcord From: lilacs007@... Just out on fish oil - omega 3 http://www.naturalnews.com/034256_omega-3_inflammation.html I take about 5000 mg fish oil a day, about 1000 mg is EPA and 1000 mg DHA, would have to study the labels. 3 different sources per day but 5 1000 mg capsules. Just rem one has a lot of GLA in it too. Rick
