Hi Lee,

My Plumonologist just started me on Bactrim, double strength 800-160, 2 times a day for 2 weeks. My last culture's results were not definitive as to my infection and I have 3 more incubating.

My infection started in May and I was put on Cipro, Levaquin, and Biaxon which were ineffective by my Primary Dr., who then turned me over to the Infectious Disease Dr. who wanted me to see the Plumonologist. The Plumonologist is the one who put me on Bactrim. I hope this knocks out the infection, however I have been on it for about 4 days and I'm still coughing up the green goop.

I wanted to respond as I have never been prescribed Bactrim in the 6 years that I have had Bronch and found your email interesting.

Stay well,

EILEEN-FL

thanks for replying, Lee. I'm so sorry to hear about your problems with your parents. You sound very caring. I decided to take Mucinex once a day to loosen whatever is there. I was wondering if that is too much to take. I'm going to try this route for awhile and see where it takes me. Once again, thanks for your help. (What has really helped me, is my doctor started me on bactrim antibiotic twice a week for life. I truly feel this has done wonders for me.)

Hi

yes thats right I dont take anything at all. I was on puffers preventers and relievers couple of years ago. I had a few tests and they found the ventolin made me worse and nothing helped. My throat was always hoarse. he said that when i cough he can hear it loosen the noise in my chest and yet I have never coughed anything up maybe if I am sick a tiny amount of mucous. I keep antibiotics on hand just in case. and also Bisolvon medicine or tablets from over the counter at the chemist. They loosen any phlemn if I need to.

I do get a bad cough every morning and some days a bit breathless but I have also gained alot of weight which dr wont be happy when he sees me for my checkup. I have a thyroid problem and hernia and after caring for my elderly parents never got any exercise in. they are both in care now from broken hips but I still go every 3 rd day as I dont think my mother will be here much longer. Hope this helps

stay well xxx

Hi, Lee, I'm curious. Did I read on one of your mails that you don't take medicine? I take Advair and I want to get off. It's doing so much damage to my body. Arthritis and cataracts and glucoma. Is there anything at all out there that can help? Like you, I'm not bad. I've never coughed up blood. If I take Mucinex once a day, it does help. Is that too much to take? I was wondering how you manage your condition if you don't take serious medicine. I would like to do that. Thanks,

yes I thought that too still do at times as I am not typical bronch. I cough so hard now especially in a morning that I actually have a banging noise in my mid section. no one can give me answers they say its a hernia but when I had the scope down hernia wasnt too bad. so still trying to get answers. hate the gluggy throat sometimes which happens.

Hi Lee,

Thanks a lot.

Actually I hardly cough anytime of the day. This sometimes makes me wonder if at all I have bronch. I do have occasional blood with the little sputum I cough out forcefully.

Hi Mohan

I am long time member but dont post often due to commitments but I too dont use medications. was diagnosed 11 years ago and cough alot in the morning an this year a little worse than before. The meds i was on actually made me worse and hoarse so dr decided i was better without anything. will see what he says when i go for checkup in November.

Hi Joy,

Thanks a lot for the valuable information.

I joined the group a couple of months ago but was not active.

My bronch seems to be in an initial stage. Though I was diagnosed almost a year ago I am not on any medication. I did try some inhalers for a couple of months but then gave them up as there was hardly any change in the condition.

hi Mohan, yes, your symptoms do sound in keeping with bronch, and yes blood in sputum is not uncommon, especially if not treating infx. Blood may be an indicator there is underlying infx, but not always. Sometimes it can be from the hard coughing most of us do because of the sputum there, small capillaries break and ooze a little blood, not serious in itself, I'm told, tho can be alarming at times!hope this helps, joy hPS - have you been in the group a while I don't recognise your name
